My insurers won't supply me with a day or a weekends worth of insurance.
Where can i get this kind of cover elsewhere?

Try ebikeinsurance.co.uk aswell, I insured a ER-5 for a month for £15, may work out better than daily cover mate.

This was the route I took too. I looked through all the day insure sites, many need to you to over 25, which I was just shy of at the time. Some require a full licence, and a number of years riding. Others only operate through the warmer months too.

Then there's the price. For what one site quoted me for a couple of days, I was able to insure a 125 vespa for a month with e-bike.

Another way is to take out a full policy and cancel within the cooling off period. Legally I think they're only allowed to charge you pro-rata or a small fixed fee. Cancellation fees and such shouldn't apply and a quick letter to the ombudsman should sort them out.

Got some spare money?

Simply take out insurance and then cancel it within the 14 day cooling off period. May get hit with an admin fee, but that's it. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the input guys.
Thinking about it, is it usually the case that i could ride someone else’s machine on my current insurance with consent?

Depends on your insurance. Check it.

If you're covered/not covered it'll say.

Following up on what Big_Ham said, it's your certificate you need to check. One of my friends got unstuck because riding other vehicles was talked about in his policy booklet so he thought he had it. He didn't and has a nice 6 points now and has to retake his test. Doh!

The certificate may have codes on it as to what is covered and what isn't, one of these codes may refer to riding other vehicles third party. There may be further conditions found in the policy booklet, pretty standard these days that the vehicle you're riding must itself be insured.

Well, if you are covered, it'll say, if not, it probably won't say anything.

A lot of policies now don't include it if the policyholder's bike is less than 350cc - I couldn't have it just insuring the CM, but now with the GS on the policy, it's there.

And as in the case of swinton that admin/cancellation/bending you over a barrel fee is £83 for daring to cancel after 12 hours

Carole Nash are a broker, your other vehicle cover depends on your actual insurance underwriter and has nothing to do with them! Confused

That is true, but it is worth pointing out their parent company (Groupama) IS an underwriter. And that even share the same offices. In fact, to get me a deal a couple of years back one of the insurance bods walked across the room to speak with the underwriter to ultimately offer a killer price (relative to all the other insurers).

Feel pretty confident that if they'd have called up a separate underwriting company to try to haggle with them, the offer wouldn't have happened.

Also, you are correct in that the underwriter provides the cover, but in a lot of cases the broker provides the documentation...

Definitely!! I got some insurance through Chaucer, and despite the comparison engine thingy saying that it included riding other bikes, this was not stated when the certificate arrived.

When I rang them up to question it, the first two people that I spoke to said that they now only put if you are *not* covered to ride any other bikes on the certificate. Rolling Eyes

As this sounded a bit, erm, unique (!) I did insist that they put this to me in writing, which meant that I had to speak to "a manager" on Monday. This I did, and only when speaking to that lady was it confirmed that actually I was not covered for other bikes. Mad Mad

Still wanted to charge me £30 cancellation fee, although that was dropped a few weeks later after a couple of 'robust' letters were sent to them. Razz

Moral: Check your policy. If it ain't in writing, it ain't worth shit.

Found an easy to use site and almost got a quote.
I can’t see the sub model number of the bike though. It’s asking me if it’s a E, U or X model.
I haven’t had a reply from the owner yet, is there any way i can find out with only the reg number?
