Are there any insurers that don't ask for proof of restriction if you're on an A2 license? Or does it just depend on personal circumstances?

Since restricting a bike to 33bhp is a lot of hassle and money, I was thinking of not doing anything. (Once I pass my test that is)

Carole Nash don't. H&R will want lots of pieces of paper, they'll even ask for the restriction cert for your 125 Very Happy

As long as you're riding within the terms of your licence many insurers won't be bothered. Swintons never asked me and I don't believe Devitt asked my other half either.

Edited to add: They don't really fancy insuring me now I've put a Motad and Renthal bars on though.

Express Insurance don't ask, although they asked me for proof of license. Swintons didn't ask me either.

I declared the restriction with Dial Direct and they haven't asked for anything to prove it.

CIA haven't, whether or not they'll want one in the event of a claim is another matter..

Restriction isn't expensive, unless you're a twat who believes that not having it FI restricted is illegal.

Fixed Wink

I'm curious if there are any really arsey insurance companies who will ONLY accept FI certs, in the current owners name, and not dyno printouts as proof of restriction, just so we can add them to the top of the list to AVOID AT ALL COST?

They might not ask, but if you need to claim and they check and find it's not restricted, they'll tell you to fuck off...

If your insurance company is going to lie to you like that from the word go, then you need to try your next quote :p

My restriction certificate is from a suzuki dealer in leicester in the previous owners name I believe.. So we'll see if that becomes a problem god forbid I ever need to claim..

ebike didn't ask me, neither did Bennetts or Motorcycle Dierct, although I declared it to all. Ironically MD charged an extra premium for a modification which they then reduced when I removed the restriction........

what bike have you got/getting?

two years is a long time.

Get a used kit of ebay. you can sell it for the same amount afterwards... fitting is easy.

dyno test costs £15.

Nope mine didn't (Devitt) although they did ask of proof of CBT before I passed my test ahaha

Really though, they aren't bothered so longs as you're riding in accordance with your licence. The time they'll check is if you need to make a claim, then they'll hunt like rodents to come and see whether or not it's restricted. Insurers are sneaky b*stards and will do ANYTHING not to pay out in an accident Wink

as for the restrictors, I made mine myself. 50p's worth of washers (although I chucked £1 at the guy in the trade counter and told him to keep the change). I made them to the exact spec of the biggest company who make restrictors Wink and they're currently fitted. Haven't bothered dynoing as I'm 100% confident in them. If the police or insurance needed me too, I'd happily do a dyno test to prove how confident I am in them Very Happy

MCE didn't ask for anything from me. Only an old policy number to prove NCB I guess.

BikeSure didn't want proof, but they did ask me.

Something along the lines of 'i think it'll be fine without paperwork, you've said it on a recorded phone call, so all we'll need is your driving license and proof of no claims'

Fun fun.
