On the way back from camping today, in my mates car (never would have fit all the gear + my tool box on the bike) 2 IL4's hoofed it past us.

Now we are both big fans of V-Twins, nothing can quite compare to the noise of one, sounding like it is trying to hoover up the road as it flies by.

Just after they did, I said that they sound crap of full chat, and he agreed, with the following statement:

They are like a chav driving a saxo, screaming like fuck but don't actually go anywhere.

Now i'm sure all of you can see the flaw in what he said. But I have to agree to a certain extent.

I've never liked the scream of a IL4, to me it sounds like a fast ped, where as the V-Twin just growls as it is wound up.

Anyone else think the same?

like everything, depends on the bike and who hears it, to me some v twins sound a bit agricultural, I personally prefer a big bang V4 (as found in the N/RC30 VFR's)

Personaly, I like the sound of tripples, two and four stroke but I don't dislike the sound of any bike............apart from a parallel four stroke twin perhaps. 'Must admit, I'm not over enamoured with the sound of my VFR either, but I think that's down to the crap pipe.

Get a V-Twin and feel good.

Every girl i've every had on the back of mine, has said it is the best bike ever. Down to the fact when I go fast they lean forward, and their clit hit's the vibrating seat, the fast I got the more forward they lean.

The thing is, Il4's do have speed though. They don't sound as loud as V twins, but I believe that at lower revs they are vey quiet and if you hear them, then they are doing some speed and are fasterthan V twins. Some exhausts do make them sound nice too.
