I've wanted to get an SV650s K6+ for a while now. Bearing in mind I've never (properly) rode a bike before. The SV650s seems like a decent beginners bike that fits my budget. Anyway, I just found out my neighbor (but one) has got an SV too! It's in black so from a distance it's hard to tell it's an SV, hence why it took me so long to realize, I thought it was an R6 or something Embarassed I also thought it was an IL4 Embarassed

Anyway, would it be weird to get the same bike as a neighbor? I feel as though he might think I am trying to copy him, or '1 up' him, which I am not AT ALL. His is 09, I'm looking at 06-07. I see him very rarely so don't really talk to him other than the occasional "hi" every few months.

Btw I AM getting the SV, this isn't going to stop me, just wanting opinions Smile

Cue everyone with a black 09 SV looking out their window guessing who it could be Mr. Green

Get the SV.
Great progression bike.
Having an SV next door, will probably mean you will talk more, and may even go out for rideouts. Don't let it put you off.

It reminds me of the sort of situation where you find it awkward to talk to someone because you have a suspicion that they don't like you. So you end up being quite antisocial towards them and you either never talk, or they start talking to you and you get freaked out because you were convinced that they didn't like you or were judging you or something.

If a neighbour got a ZZR then I wouldn't be bothered. It means it's someone who can potentially be a mate to have banter with while fixing the bikes.

I would LOVE for a neighbour to get an RXS100 though.

SV's are very common first bikes and I think having similar taste wouldn't do any harm. And tbh even if he did care then fuck him.

I wouldn't, I'd be really angry if anyone on my road bought the same bike as me.

Buy yourself a Hyosung GT650R.

They are very similar bikes (although not identical).

The Hyosung is cheaper.
The Hyosung has more power.
The Hyosung has better handling.

However, Hyosungs break LOTS, difficult to get some parts, not as easy to sell on, etc and not many people know of the 'Hyosung brand'.

SV650S £4975

GT650R £5199

Add £200 worth of aftermarket fairings to the SV and it comes out to exactly the price of the Hyosung. I'm pretty sure which one is going to be worth more when you try to sell it on.

Heres a thought for the day, go and talk to the man, ask him about the bike and he will tell you the pro's and con's of the SV.

I love mine, and yes it is my first 'proper' bike. I like the light weight, punchy engine and nimble nature of it, it's also quick enough to keep up on rideouts and as I found out yesterday, quite forgiving of silly mistakes*

*Bad ob's, failed to spot some gravel and horse shit half way round a corner and by the time she stopped sliding I was in the other lane, still lent over and carried on at a reduced pace... I had luck, no oncomeing traffic Karma

Just get what you want lol if somebody else has the same bike even your neighbour theyre more likely to give you advice or have a little banter about the bike than worry about 1 upmanship especially over an SV (Ducati 1198 might be abit different though Thinking )
