looking to buy 94 yamaha xj 600 but has 40000 miles

so i am just starting to look into buying a bike im a very unexpirienced rider so im looking for something cheap i found a 94 yamaha xj 600 for 500$ and idk if its something i should even consider because of the miles please any help you can give me with the miles and if i should even consider it because i do not wanna buy something that may just be a money pit...heres a link to the add please help me i really want to get into riding and wanna get something cheap to start out that i wouldnt be worried about dumping https://grandrapids.craigslist.org/mcy/2491271518.html

the milage is no problem. unless its just been thrashed all its life.. but its not normally owned by them type of people.

whats weird, is the frame color and mattblack.

and its been sat for a few years.

Agreed Thumbs Up

On top of the price for that bike you will need to factor in a full service, tyre. etc.

For the extra bucks you will end up spending on it, why not buy something which cost a little more money but doesn't need anything doing to it?

I think the bikes a shitter and would end up causing you grief. I wouldn't buy it, but that's just my opinion Very Happy

I had an XJ600N which spent the majority of it's life on the limiter or on the back wheel, or sideways. It loved it.

That was also matt black. Wink Laughing

Seems ok to me. They are a hardy engine so 40k miles isn't anything to worry about so long as it doesn't knock or rattle badly.

Budget for a new tyre, chain, oil and filters plus a carbs clean-out.

I sold mine with 54,000 miles on it - still going strong.

Low strung engine based on a design as old as the hills.Keep changing the oil and it should run for eternity!

Check all the suspension bearings are ok and that the engine doesn't smoke or rattle too much. The clutches are rattly on these bikes so pull the clutch in and it should shut up.

Probably worth looking at the camchain at 60k or so.
