Last month my Nan had the misfoutune to have a small seaction of the back roof of her bungalow blown off during a quite windy day, no problem she though as she has home insurance which covers such damage.

She contacted Saga insurance who she has her home insurance policy with who asked her what day of the week it happened, she told them that she found what was left of the seaction of roof in her back garden on Saturday but was,nt sure when in the week it had blown off but the Saga insurance operator wanted her to confirm the day so she said it might of been Friday but she was,nt sure and that was put down as part of the claim information.

Saga insurance later called back and said they were refusing to pay out because the weather report for Friday showed that there was no wind.

Now this is out of order as it does,nt matter what day the damaged occoured the fact is the roof was blown off and was only discovered on the Saturday and how do they expect a 90 year old women to remeber the exact day it happened. Evil or Very Mad

We were able to get a local roofer out quite quicker to repair the damage at our own cost of £600, but l find Saga,s behavour towards this discusting.

I used to work for Saga's car insurance on the claims side. Quite frankly this doesn't surprise me at all. Not wanting to suggest other insurers wouldn't do the same, but our managers had the attitude of "customers will remain Saga customers because they feel it's a club to belong to, and the more Saga products you have, the bigger the kudos in the club." and "the older they are, the more you can get away with, since they won't want to argue with you.".

My advice, lodge a complaint, keep it going high, since the higher management (used to at least) care about customer service. Failing that, what Big_Ham said, Financial Ombudsman Service. You have to complain to the company before you can use the fos.

I would get her to call them back and tell them she authorizes me to speak on her behalf then then would be getting six barrels of abuse down the phone. Then I'd start a complaints proceedure.
