....But has anybody on this forum ever modified their subframe, or replaced their subframe, or changed their subframe for something else, or all of the above??? Laughing

Just asking because I have (obviously) Finished the Badit, but i am still not happy with it. Dont get me wrong I think it has enough power for me (at the moment!! Twisted Evil ) and it rides all right ish, apart from the fact that you cant really lean the fecker over because the foot pegs scrape. But it's more the look of it that isn't making me happy.

Even though it was a lot of hard work and we had our ups and downs throughout the time I spent working on it, I still look at it and think well it's just a Bandit with a Cool Paint job.

Now i have listed the extras i want to get for it which include:

Footrest riser plates, Rear sets, new Cooler, Steering damper, Braced swingarm (might even fit a single sided one if I can get it cheap enough) Braided lines etc. and a few other bits and bobs.

Now I know what your thinking "Whats the point in spending all that money on a 600" the same way we all say it about 125's but the bike will always be there. I will eventually buy a bigger bike (probably a sports bike because I love corners) but the Bandit will remain and receive the 1200 lump it deserves and will be my Weekend ride.

But anyway back to the original point one quick way of modifying the bike is to fit a new rear subframe and seat unit. Now a friend of mine is selling his ZX6R subframe, seat unit, seats, footrest hanger and pegs for £40 and I was wondering how easy it would be to fit.

Any ideas??

Mike.

The ZX6R will be a bugger to fit! The subframes are not near the same. You'd be better trying to get a seat unit to fit your current frame. I'm putting an R6 tail on my GS as It can be done with very little frame change if any. Maybe you could go to a breaker with your tail fairing off and try a few for rough fit and then bodge the one that fits closest.

Hi

The Bandit subframe is part of the frame itself. You would need to chop it off and fit mouting bolt positions for the ZX6R subframe. It would be loads of work, and stand a fair chance of looking fairly ugly and unfinished.

All the best

Keith

Couldn't you leave the subframe and just get a single seat race fairing kind of thing to bodge on top - got to be less hassle than hacking at the metal.

Well I was thinking about an R6 or R1 Unit, I was only thinking the ZX6R because 1. I could get it cheap and 2. I havent seen many Bandits with the actual unit on.

I spoke to the guy at F1 and he said for a ride in ride out fitting would be £1000 plus vat, so I thought sod that I might give it a go myself first.

Which is why I have just bought a manky Bandit front tyre so that I can have a go at polishing it first and if it comes out alright I will do it myself to my tyres, before I part with my hard earned to pay someone else to do it.

Thanks for the advice,

Mike.

My VFR will be getting an RCV211v subframe, but it's a direct fit, increases the ride heigh by about 15mm I believe. Need a modified brake reservoir, coolant expansion bottle and battery tray, and new mounting points for CDI/reg/rec.

Like Keith says the Bandit (and the GS) have a solid frame - subframe welded joint. Get a close fitting unit and modify that - you'll also be able to put it back to origional for selling too!!!
