This old bike has been my 'second' bike for years, it's an old CB450 custom. It's slow but comfortable and generally nice to ride if you're not in a rush... Anyway

It has the standard twin megaphone exhausts, the other day I unscrewed the baffle's to see if it would make any difference to the way it sounded (3 screws and the whole baffle stick just pulls out).

Before anyone says 'It's only a CB450, it can't be that noisey' - Yes, yes it can.. You simply would not believe how noisey it is!

I kinda like it this way, sounds like a harley off idle and a spitfire at speed, so - where do i stand with the motorcycle noise limits?

The bike was made in early 1982.

And... It's loud... really loud...

BSAU exhaust regs came in st august 84 so you dont need a stamped can, however a right bastard of a cop could still do you for exessive noise if you didnt speak to him nicely

Cheers

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

Why dont you cut down the baffles?

That way, your exhausts would look normal for the "its just the way they sounded back then" defence, and you could "tune" the length of baffle you take out to give the best compromise between loudness and paranoia about getting pulled.

I like the baffle trimming idea.. It is a tad excessive at the moment.. So if i get pulled the best thing i can do is be really nice and use the 'I thought all of these old things sounded like that'...

It's the only CB450 custom i've ever seen anyway!
