So I've picked up a 95 CBR 600 F, MOT tester today said the front brakes were towards the end of their life but still work fine.

Now I have ideas of turning this into a track bike sometime in the future. Does anyone know of any more powerful systems that will fit as the current brakes work but aren't fantastic? Callipers off the 929 of something like that?

Any idea's would be much appreciated.

your biggest performance increase will be new pads, braided hoses and fresh fluid.

SBS, Bendix sintered pads are good.. hell, even OEM honda are perfectly up to the job.

I've just replaced my 600Fs master cylinder with an SP1 one for a bit more power but i've not had a chance to test it yet as the bikes not road legal. only going to be able to give it a proper test at snet. 300 on tuesday. (watch me straight line the first corner when they dont work Very Happy)

what i have been told is you have to be very careful when changing MC's as it changing the braking ratio. you can end up with a lever with no travel to hammer teh brakes on, or on the opposite side, loads of travel before you can brake heavily.

brembo do changeable ratio MCs but they are pricy.

if you're changing the whole system (i.e. MC, lines and calipers) then obviously you dont need to worry about it but you will need to probably fashion some kind of bracket adapter to fit them.

i've known people that have 6 pots on their CBRs with custom brackets (basically just some steel plate with a few threaded holes in)

unfortunately i dont know if F4i+ systems will fit or not. only thing you can do is have a look at a few and try to find the bolt hole distances and angles to see if they'll line up correctly.

Sorry, should have mentioned. Pads are fairly fresh, its already got braided hoses on too. Probably would benefit from a fluid change though.

SP1 MC sounds like a good idea, let me know if its any good... If you make the first corner that is Wink.

I expect a decent overhaul with new seals, fresh fluid, discs and pads would probably do it but that's not as exciting as locking the front Wink

right heres what i posted on the cbr6ers club im on Smile

Right then.
I have to say the upgrades to the braking system are AWESOME!!

i was really worried about not having any brakes on the trackday. didnt trust them at all at first.

as i pootled to get it noise tested i was dragging the brake and accelerating/braking just to get them working. rode about by the car for a bit just testing them. on the way back i decided to do it and suddenly i locked the front and nearly tucked it

so yeh.. brakes are working.

took the 1st session pretty slowly bedding them in but after that.. oh my god!

the brakes are great!!

the levers rock solid with a perfect amount of travel, braking power is very strong and more than that i can feel exactly how much grip the front wheel has through the lever, the feel is superb!!

im sure the new pads have something to do with it as well and i already had braided lines but the whole package has created a damn nice braking system. looking forward to getting back on a track i know and start pushing my braking markers ^^

very happy with my £45 upgrade

Thanks very much. That's worth knowing.

I'll have a look around, any recommendations for the pads/discs? I don't really want to spend a fortune as I'm poor Smile. What ones do you have?

I will defo keep an eye out for an SP1 MC though as that's worth the cash!

If your CBR has the small diameter disc bolt pattern you can fit the same discs as on NC30's '23's etc I think there's a set of EBC Prolites on ebay for a CBR400, fantastic brakes Very Happy

I think you can also get adaptor plates to fit 65mm spacing Ducati Brembo's Thumbs Up Can't advise on a budget option though Neutral

no probs Smile

ebc discs are nice but i dont think its really required. fresh oems/quality pattern discs are just fine. dont get sucked into the whole wavy style crap, does fek all.

i've got sps pads on the bike now. great for track but wont last that long. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390242311945

i've also got a backup set of bendix pads https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280696817902

both highly rated but tbh if you're not going pure track just yet then just go for oem honda pads. they're perfectly functional, used em all last year on the trackbike.. although they are a bit wooden and fade a bit at high temps, so all depends how quick you are Very Happy

gl, looks cool too heh

/edit
should mention, if you do get a sp1 mc you'll need an sp1 lever too. i forgot about this but luckily the trak-tech lever i had on my 954 blade fit it so i dont have mismatched levers Smile just had to go back to standard levers on the blade for a bit until i get a new brake one.
