 |
|
So I've picked up a 95 CBR 600 F, MOT tester today said the front brakes were towards the end of their life but still work fine.
Now I have ideas of turning this into a track bike sometime in the future. Does anyone know of any more powerful systems that will fit as the current brakes work but aren't fantastic? Callipers off the 929 of something like that?
Any idea's would be much appreciated. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

your biggest performance increase will be new pads, braided hoses and fresh fluid.
SBS, Bendix sintered pads are good.. hell, even OEM honda are perfectly up to the job.
I've just replaced my 600Fs master cylinder with an SP1 one for a bit more power but i've not had a chance to test it yet as the bikes not road legal. only going to be able to give it a proper test at snet. 300 on tuesday. (watch me straight line the first corner when they dont work )
what i have been told is you have to be very careful when changing MC's as it changing the braking ratio. you can end up with a lever with no travel to hammer teh brakes on, or on the opposite side, loads of travel before you can brake heavily.
brembo do changeable ratio MCs but they are pricy.
if you're changing the whole system (i.e. MC, lines and calipers) then obviously you dont need to worry about it but you will need to probably fashion some kind of bracket adapter to fit them.
i've known people that have 6 pots on their CBRs with custom brackets (basically just some steel plate with a few threaded holes in)
unfortunately i dont know if F4i+ systems will fit or not. only thing you can do is have a look at a few and try to find the bolt hole distances and angles to see if they'll line up correctly. ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

Sorry, should have mentioned. Pads are fairly fresh, its already got braided hoses on too. Probably would benefit from a fluid change though.
SP1 MC sounds like a good idea, let me know if its any good... If you make the first corner that is .
I expect a decent overhaul with new seals, fresh fluid, discs and pads would probably do it but that's not as exciting as locking the front ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

Thanks very much. That's worth knowing.
I'll have a look around, any recommendations for the pads/discs? I don't really want to spend a fortune as I'm poor . What ones do you have?
I will defo keep an eye out for an SP1 MC though as that's worth the cash! ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

If your CBR has the small diameter disc bolt pattern you can fit the same discs as on NC30's '23's etc I think there's a set of EBC Prolites on ebay for a CBR400, fantastic brakes
I think you can also get adaptor plates to fit 65mm spacing Ducati Brembo's Can't advise on a budget option though ____________________ '84 TS50X, '91 TZR125, '89 CBR400RR, '91 VFR400R NC30, '98 R1
