Right i'll try and keep this short and sweet.

New bike, 2003 VTEC.
As always, i am giving it a thorough full service.
Bleeding brakes seems to be a PITA on this bike (prob because of the linked system), never had any problems before with bleeding using a one way valve type device and pumping levers.

Anyway that wasnt working all that good so i decided i'd buy a £50 vacuum bleeder today as recommended by Honda. Was all going well until i get to the rear caliper. The bloody thing just kept pumping out air with the fluid non-stop for over an hour and i kept refilling the reservoir. I got fed up and tried using my faithful one way valve again and pumped the lever. Nice it worked....or so i thought.

Thats strange though huh? Why was the vaccum bleeder pullng out air? So i attach the vaccum device again and it sucks out more air again!!! Whats going on......when i use the one-way valve and pump the lever i get fluid with no air.

So i finish up the rear caliper using the one-way valve method and move on to the lower nipple on the front left caliper which is the link from the rear brake pedal to the front brake system.Same all over again. I dont understand it. And the thing is....the rear feels crap....really crap. Obviously there is an issue with the rear pedal circuit as the vaccum device worked fine on each of the front lever circuit nipples. But if the problem is air where is it coming from, why is there endless amounts of it and why doesnt it come out when i use the one-way valve?

Sorry, i know i said i'd keep it short and sweet but its rather difficult to explain. Anyway, im annoyed now. That vaccum thing was meant to mnake the job really quick and easy and its not. Pah!

I remember those weird contraptions, didn't get to bleed one myself.

The air situation, are you sure its not just sucking air from an opening at the nipple or pipe on the vac itself?

What is fitted to the brakes? Rubber or braided hoses?

Rubber hoses. No feckin way im changing the hoses myself now! Everything was working a-ok before i started so im guessing the condition of the hoses is fine and the bits i can see look really clean. The bikes only got 10,000 miles on it.

With the air thing, my inital thought was dodgy connection to the nipple as well, but i tried using the same connection with my one-way valve and it worked fine. I'll go over vac again and check for any damage but like i said, it works fine on the nipples relating to the front lever circuit.

Ah I see, I would suggest consulting an online manual and read up on the bleeding procedure.

Alternatively get onto an owners forum and ask for advice. That has always been my saving grace.

They will give you more than enough information.

Just for my own personal knowledge could you post your findings here for future reference?
