Rubbing Rear Brake?

Hi all,

I recently brought a 2001 Honda CB500 S and noticed that a low speed and just pushing it there was a strange sort of noise happeneing. I found out it was coming from the rear brakes. Every time the wheel went round to a certain point the break is rubbing and it's quite loud.

The dealer told me that they are pretty new and may just need wearing in.

Anyone got any suggestion on how to get rid/reduce the rubbing noise from this?

I have exactly the same problem on my CB500, intrigued to see if this is normal. My brakes have done over 4000 miles if that helps.

Make sure the disk itself is clean, and not damaged/warped
Also find out if the calipers & brake pistons are operating properly

hmm that is odd. I hope there is a fix for it, it's really noisy xD

I'd suggest sticking brake piston.

Well I don't believe it, Checked the disc was not warped and then cleaned around it and the rubbing stopped XD

Can't believe that it was just dirt, it didnt even look dirty lol

For future reference you can get salt and crap the ends up working its way between the disc and wheel which pushes the disc out at a certain point causing it to sit as though it is warped. I had this on my Hornet and had the same symptoms you are describing.

I'll be checking this on my Hornet as soon as I get the chance. Glad I'm off to see BSB tomorrow but would rather be playing with my own bike!
