Mixture Screw on Rieju RS2 50 Matrix

Hi again people,

Now that I have the lad's 'ped up and running (new plug did the trick, cheers for the advice), I suspect that it is running quite rich and would like to drop it down a bit to make it run an bit better.

Reason for suspecting this is that it starts first time, every time (I know this is ususally a good thing, but even in the cold,damp mornings without choke)

When running cold, it is still running well and when you add some choke, it dies as if flooding.

When you turn the key off to stop the bike, it runs on for a few seconds.

I know it is a 2stroke, but even so, it is quite smokey and smelly when ridden off.

It does not rev freely to the top of the rev range, but does eventually reach the red line.

Like I said, I suspect it is running rich and would like to reduce it to a leaner mixture, but despite having various manuals off the net, there does not seem to be anywhere which tells me where the screw is to adjust the mixture.

Any pointers or even better, pictures would be most welcome.

The mixture screw will only effect idle mixture, if it's running rich higher than that then jet and needle combo will need attention.

Is the bike all standard/stock? Or has it been played with?

The mixture screw tends to be a brass screw near the float bowl.

To adjust it you tighten it until lightly seated, make sure you count the number of turns required too so that you can compare with manual settings (don't go mad, like i said, lightly seated) then undo the screw counting the turns, a manual will tell you what the stock setting is.

Try this first then move onto the needle settings if still running poorly.

Sounds like a jetting issue rather than mixture if as you say the adjustment is just on the idle mixture.

The bike is de-restricted (i have followed it in the car and been doing close to 60 downhill), so is suspect it has been jetted for a little bit more performance.

Will jake it down to the local guru to have him look and make sure all is OK.

Not a problem, I understand how daunting carbs can be. When I had my FZR400 the carbs were worn out and needed a lot of TLC and I made a lot of adjustments to them to get them near perfect.

With that came quite a bit of research as you would expect. Do what is easiest for you, the bloke at the garage should know his stuff but I would avoid mates of mates who know a guy in his house's garage kind of thing as when I was a spanner monkey had to fix alot of scooter due to that.
