From December 2012 insurance companies won't be allowed to take gender into account when they calculate vehicle insurance premiums.

https://www.theaa.com/insurance/news/gender-directive-affects-car-insurance.html?cid=AA_ezine_nonmember&pla=April

says CAR but sure it'll be the same for bikes, vans etc

What about sexual orientation. Studies say that gay men's brains work the same way as a woman's. And vice versa.

I can't confirm that with facts, but I just feel that it's true.

Anyway, apropos the insurance, I imagine the only change will be women's premiums going up to match men's.

From what I have gathered is the womans insurance was cheaper from certain companies and they are bringing it all into the same price bracket.

But rather than meet half way by lowering the normal insurance companies they are increasing the cheaper female companies.

Articles said (ages ago when this was news..) that mens would drop by 10% and womens would go up by 25% on average.

The difference is made up by the massive amount of more men on the road

I might have to cancel my op!
I had worked out I could get the cost back over 13 years worth of reduced premiums!

Insurance companies are robbing bastards. Why would they want to reduce 10% profits? They wont. They'll increase womens by 35% and decrease mens by bugger all!

Maybe, but they could just increase both by 10% now if they wanted more profits.

All the best

Hi

They already have the idea. No real extra reason why they should increase premiums overall when the enforced change happens over any other time.

They want their profits. If there costs go up then they just want more of our money to keep their profits up. More people rip them off the more their costs go up and the more the premiums go up. Hence with people claiming for everything and adding almost the same again (on average) in legal bills and our insurance will go up without any negative impact on their profits.

All the best

Keith

Although, if a company has a choice between reducing costs and keeping the same price, or just increasing price, they will always choose the former because it doesn't discourage purchasing of their product.

Increasing womens by 35% because of the new gender rules is a perfect excuse to get away with it. They won't reduce men's because people don't complain about prices staying the same.

Simply increasing prices of both by 10% with no legislation to excuse them would just result in bad press.[/i]

Hi

When legislation should be pushing the rates down then I suspect the press coverage will be just as bad if rates don't go down.

All the best

Let me say this now as I predict this will happen with the new ruling.

Some people believe that Insurance for women will get more expensive and for men will get cheaper.

I reckon different. It will increase for women and remain the same for men. Every year insurance prices increase. I just can't see that changing.

That only applies when you can choose whether or not you buy a product, which is not the case with insurance.

What a fucking stupid law.

In the name of combatting discrimination, yet it goes completely against common sense.

It's going to end up costing us all more in the end.

Seriously, fuck the EU.

Insurance companies work like this - Give me a boat load of money cos the law says you must be insured - if you have an accident and claim - then you must still give us a boat load of money and whatever we had to pay out we'll get back off you by increasing your insurance payments - mmmmm maybe i'm in the wrong business Smile
