This is a query mainly about the frame, headstock and other parts like that swingarm etc. which are all black, its an old school 70s bike and I'm looking for an older less perfect finish than modern bikes.

My frame and headstock are in average/good condition, have some scratches here and there and some slight rusts in parts mostly nothing major, could be ridden as is but I'd like to sort it out.

I'd like most of the bike and all the parts above mentioned in a classic black coach enamel. Flowliner do a complete set of classic black coach paint enamel, acid etch and primer and I'd like to strip the fuel tank (which is brown and in worse condition than the frame) and repaint with the above. I'll also be de-rusting and lining the inside of the tank.

Question is whether or not its worth stripping the whole frame, headstock etc. and completely acid etching, priming and painting it like the fuel tank? Or whether it's better just to Powder coat the whole thing, my worry is that powder coating will be too glossy and clash with the the painting of the tank?

You can get satin finish black powdercoat that looks better and which people prefer to a gloss for a a frame. If you're stripping it might as well go for blasting and powdercoat, enamel is more subsceptable to chipping and a proper job will cost more than powdercoating, but it's your choice.

Perhaps is just better at the moment to do some spot repairs? I mean it doesn't look that bad the frame but I would like to sort it out.

On another note will powder coating be good for example for a centre or side stand? Will it take that kind of abuse?
