hey all, apologies in advance for the odd question...
have had a slightly annoying problem with my speedo, being that it has stopped working.. i'm guessing the cable is broken, unfortuneately the spares shop was closed (stupid damn early wednesday closing ) so will have to wait till tomorrow..
thing is i have been using my gps for a speedo (only for today up to now), its a million times more accurate than a speedometer and ALLOT easier to read (at night anyway)
but i don't think its a legal alternative is it? i know people have used digital cycle speedos on customs and the like, but they are part of the bike...
its also interesting to see how hugely inaccurate speedos are, parents both have ford fiestas, at a steady 40 the gps gives 35, at 70 the gps says 60! weird huh? i'm sure some are worse too..
anyways its not a permanent thing (sorting the speedo out tomorrow hopefully) i was just curious really, what exactly constitutes a road legal speedo? |

A GPS isn't 100% accurate either, it doesn't account for road surface angles or anything like that. If you're going uphill at 60 you're technically not travelling laterally forward so it will see you only doing 50 or less.
Also the speed at which it updates can be a major factor as it only averages your speed over the seconds it takes to get a reading, this can lead to a very inaccurate speedo ____________________ Back on a Blade. Just feels so right. |
