Need to get my fat arse fit, and discovered there's more places around there than I thought. Also be nice to get out and discover more green lanes for when I can finally afford an enduro bike again.

Budgets around 500-600, I suspect hardtail for that money (Claude Butler Cape wrath 02??), but I'm not adverse to full suspension provided it can be locked out for the peddle back uphill.

It'll be getting used for trail stuff with the odd bit of DH thrown in.

Or if it's only shite for that money recommend me a frame for a bit less and I'll get something built up over the coming months, how hard can it be!

Currently looking at the Mongoose Tyax elite, or Trek 4300 Disc.

Thanks.

carrera fury from halfords. About the best brand new bike you can get for 500 quid. People rave about them. I have a carrera vulcan and its cracking. Do not buy a full suspension bike new or used for 500 quid. you do not need one when starting out. You can.t go wrong with the fury tho. or look at the voodoos in halfords. And lastly spesh hardrocks.

After having mine stolen a while ago, I recently got another Boardman FS Comp for £510 second hand. Barely used as the bloke found his ankle problems gave him too much gip.

5' travel full suspension, but decently light enough with an appropriate chassis/suspension design that you can go up hills fine.
It's actually lighter than a friend's (to be fair cheaper) hard tail GT.

Definitely a convert to full suspension cross country now.

Hello

Having had a Specialized Hardrock in the past. I would definately reccomend this bike for your budget.

It's worth checking the prices in local specialist mountain bike shops as you can get a reasonable reduction during the last week of a month.

Some of the Kona jump/hardtails may also be worth considering, usually well specced, very light and very capable too.

All the best
Mike

Right, sorry to dig this up. Narrowed down to a Specialized HR Pro Disk, or a Konda Cindercone that's reduced so the same price as the HR. As fair as I can tell this buys you better forks (but no lock out like the HR), and better brakes. Thoughts?

Hi there

I would have thought that the Kona would have been specced to a higher price point in the first place, making it theoretically (on paper) the better overall option.

Having said that, it is almost certain that each of these bikes will have had concessions made to make them viable in their respective catagories e g; quality of frame, pedals, tyres, rims etc.

I would have thought that the Kona would be more adaptable at some cost to you, but there might be very little differences....on paper. Are you able to test ride either or each bike by hiring from a shop or just requesting a test ride.

Long story short = Kona for me.

All the best
Mike

Just looked at them both, I'd have the Kona over that any day!

Not too keen on the frame of the specialized. Kona does have some slightly better equipment and I quite like the frame geometry Very Happy

Thumbs Up
