I know there is the film review thread but I’m after specifics really.

I’ve come to realise my film collection is great BUT, I think I could count the films that don’t contain guns and action on one hand.
I love thought provoking films, or just something pleasant but I’ve been massively disappointed in the past by some recommends.
I watched ‘The Music Of Chance’ again the other night, a fantastic film, but totally forgot it gets a little dark three quarters of the way through. Nevertheless, a must see if you haven’t seen it.
I have seen it but need to watch again, ‘The Lives Of Others’. Something I wouldn’t have picked it myself but glad of the recommend.
So I’m not fussed about genre really. I really don’t get on with ‘chick flicks’ anything like ‘Stepmom’ Julia Roberts tripe. I want something meaty but not overall dark and murderous. The films that make you go ‘Holy crap!’ But doesn’t require someone’s eyes being ripped out for that reaction.

Limitless is good, just released - Has Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

Unstoppable also with Denzel Washington.

Enjoyed them both very much.

Completely ignoring the OP's request of dialing down the gun/action film element then?

Give K-PAX a go.

Is unknown, just jumping on the bandwagon of Taken as it were, or is it different and a good film in it's own right ?

Unknown and taken were both shit IMO, Liam Neeson is a talentless mong.

Some good films not involving guns (or limited amounts of guns):

Shutter Island - very clever film, very enjoyable and a total mind fuck. One of my favourite films of the past few years and I go to the cinema most weeks.

Source code was worth a watch.

Adjustment bureau and limitless were both pretty good.

Everyone has seen inception and IMO they explained it all a little too much but it was still very good.

Going back a few years, blade runner and butterfly effect are still a brilliant watch if you haven't seen them.

Not QUITE that old.
On that, a film in a similar ilk which came out at the same time, though of a more comic nature - The Man Who Knew Too Little.

I would recommend -

Pans Labyrinth - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/

The Pianist - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253474/

The Motorcycle Diaries - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318462/

Black Swan - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0947798/

Nice different range of titles there and I'd say every single one is a must see and I rate them all quite highly Thumbs Up

Good film, but it does have a gun in it! Razz

I just watched these 3:
City lights
Modern times
The great dictator

Also:
A fist full of dollars
For a few dollars more
Good, the bad and the ugly.

Hardly!

What I got from the OP was that he wanted something abit different, there's no request for a remake of Die Hard.... Confused Laughing

Recommending a 007 film would a crap choice. Wink

Daniel Craig has a new one out, he's a good actor. Thumbs Up
(The Machinist by Christian Bale is a hard one to figure out, with no guns)
