Hi guys,

My rear bt023 is getting near to the end of its life, so I'm starting to look at my next set of rubber. To me getting a set of race scrubs fitted seems to work out at a much better ratio of £:miles compared to fitting another bt023.

Scrubs = ~£40-70 for 3-5000 miles
BT023 = ~£130 for 8-10,000 miles

My main concern is that I do a fair amount of miles with a pillion and also lots of motorway miles, am I likely to completely ruin a super sticky tyre in no time?

I'd expect a rear scrub to last maybe 1500 miles or so - though I know people that DO get a fair bit longer (may be issues with my right hand, there.)

I'd expect the 016 - standard sporty tyre - to be 3-5000 miles from new, depending on riding. Race tyres will be a decent chunk stickier, so wear a decent bit faster.

I find often the front race tyres lose grip from too many heat cycles rather than wearing out - but usually quite a while after the rear has worn out.

Well dude, my Qualifier RR was used for about 500 feet before I got it Laughing

It did 1900 miles of normal riding.

What size rear do you have? Ive got a racetec thats too small for my bike (180 55 17) as i've got a new set Mr. Green

Thinking if I get less than about 2000 miles will make the bt023's the more viable option.

I don't actually need more grip than I get out of the 023's the edges are really sticky on them anyway. This is more about £'s per mile.

Pretty sure the 93 CBR6 will take a 160 smaller, so not going to be able to show-horn that on.

Ideally, try and find some bt23/24s part worn, or similar? Obviously less of them about, but you will see them turn up on ebay etc fairly regularly.

The local tyre shop in Reading always kept a selection from people that had swapped both tyres when only one needed doing, etc.
