I have recently got into American horror story,
Finished the first season which I think was quite good,
Only seen the first episode of the second season so not too sure how that one is going to go yet,
Seems OK

American Horror Story is something I keep nibbling at but never settle with. Much like Homeland, that's taken me ages to get through the first two seasons.

Stranger Things is a nice enough watch, if a little 1980's in idea and execution. Worth a watch indeed.

Stranger Things is next on my list.

I've recently Netflixxed through the first two seasons of:

Daredevil - nice and gritty, Vincent D'Onofrio smashes every scene, sometimes literally.
Gotham - a decently characterised and stylish noir take on essentially farcical subject matter. (((Batboy))) was a bit of a ropey casting choice, but pretty much everyone else is bang on and really sells it.
iZombie - light hearted brain munching, and Rose McIver has puns of steel.
Jessica Jones - I went in with no expectations and some trepidation about the wombyn centric theme, but was really pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this. Very restrained, well played and paced, I hope the Luke Cage spin off (yes, I know) is half as decent.

I'd give them all a qualified thumbs up.

They also have every single Star Trek episode on there (all shows, all series) at the moment, if you want to nerd out.

I've given up on Arrow towards the end of Season 3 though. It started out strongly, but was beginning to take itself too seriously for the inherently daft subject matter. Amazon Instant can pretty much suck it as far as series content goes.

Roger, with taste like that, you really need to be stepping up into the realm of Marvels Agents of SHIELD.
Big budget stuff, with a great story line.

I'm on series 3, Series 1 was good, Series 2 was better, Series 3 is ok. It's watchable but I'm not gorging on it like you might with Walking Dead, GOT, or Sopranos.

This must be one of my 1st threads, 5+years old! Very Happy

Mad Men - excellent multi-season series based on '60s NY ad agency
Rick and Morty
Dexter - or at least the first two series
Hanibal
Fargo (the series i.e.)

I am not up to speed with all of this Netflixery stuff, but surely buying a new Internet connection is cheaper than even one box set per month?

I presume you're aware of The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow from the same 'verse.

Which leads on nicely to a couple of SciFy series both in their second season, if you haven't seen - Dark Matter and Killjoys. Both really want to be Firefly.

Neither is, but while they start of seemingly like well made fan-fic, I'd say the reality's better than that.

Unfortunately one just jumped the shark with alternate-dimensions.

Have been tempted to start a 'sci fi media review' thread, but not got around to it yet.

The Flash < terrible

Legends of Tomorrow < terrible

Dark Matter < terrible with that stupid fucking droid thing

Killjoys is the only sci-fi thing I've been watching, it's not bad at all.

Tried a few episodes, couldn't find a reason to give a fig about any of the characters and their clichéd, trite backstories. I found it simultaneously plodding and over-blown, pedestrian and hammy, and just no fun. Piss-poor effort by Whedon.

I hear it picks up later, but then people said the same about Dollhouse. Fool me once. That's not good enough any more when there's so much decent content out there.

Joss Whedon only (helped) write the first episode.
A few others by his brother.

Seriously, it's much better than all you have recommended. That's not to say yours were bad, except maybe izombie, but that MAOS is so much better.

Because why?

I find the characters dull, the acting mediocre, and I couldn't see any flair or fun in the writing. I get that the production values are decent, but they feel wasted on the material. Seriously, what am I missing?

Oh and another decent Boxset is Person of Interest.

Others I have watched and liked in no order were:
Fringe - Not everyones cup of tea, think X-files meets Warehouse 13
Warehouse 13 - Terribly fun
Heroes - Decent enough with a lull in quality in the middle, but picks back up. Save the Cheerleader, save the world.
The Wire - The best you'll get.
Game of Thrones - We all know how good this is.
Breaking Bad - As above.
Lost - Watch to season 3 and drop it like it's hot.
Treme - Good but not for everyone. Set in post Katrina New Orleans.
The Newsroom - A sleeping giant, one you will all watch at some point, like I said about Breaking bad and The Wire, years back.
Grimm - Pretty good fun, not what I would usually go for, but got drawn into it by proxy and actually enjoyed the shit out of it.
The Walking Dead - Ace overall, with some pretty dull episodes, than can stretch for 4-5 in a row.
Orange is the New Black - Everything Prisoner Cell Block H, should have been.

Watching any of the above are certified to not waste your leisure time. If I had to push any of them, The Wire and The Newsroom are just on different levels.

Oh and Please, for the love of all things sacred, watch The Night Of. You will be cool in your social circles for knowing about it before everyone else.
