Rooms, on Talking Pictures channel 81 free view, a drama series from the seventies following the lives of people living in bedsitland. It reminds me of my first place away from home. This has to be one of the most depressing things ever on television. It thoroughly puts to rest any idiot fantasy that there was anything worthy of retro vintage cool. Go on treat yourself to some real misery from the comfort of your modern lock down home. The next episode is on at 17:30.

Cripes I rather enjoy it , in fact most Roger Marshall stuff like Public Eye. It does go to show though that we don't have much to moan about in this day and age.

Why the heck did ITV cancel Rowan Atkinson’s ‘Maigret’ after 4 episodes, it was bloody brilliant.

I'm watching The Serpent, on BBC iPlayer.
About backpacker robberies and murders in Thailand and Nepal, in the 1970s.
Its terribly good.
Jenna Coleman is fast becoming one of my favourite actresses, and there's a nice supporting part from Tim McInnerny (Captain Darling in Blackadder) as one of the diplomatic corps.

I thought it looked good but then got bored after a few episodes. All the jumping back and forwards became a bit trying as well. I think on the surface it looks good as the production values are high but ultimately its a bit thin. Nasty guy though and a serious documentary may have been more up my street.

The second and third episodes are a bit... meh. From what I understand the production was affected badly by Covid, and they had to make an 8 episode series out of what they had. I think they would have been far better off cutting it back to 6 episodes. The rest though are tense and compelling I think. Missing the two boring ones would mean you miss out on important story elements too sadly.

The weird thing is, I thought Tim McKinnery was supposed to be English... but he's Belgian. The other weird thing is that Belgians are either French speaking or Flemish, and Flemish has a common ancestor to Dutch. In fact, Flemish is basically a Shakespearian version of Dutch.

So, in that case it's a) A bit odd he has a slightly wavery English accent and B) He calls Herman 'Cloggy'. As in, he's Dutch so he must wear clogs...

The things I think about eh? Laughing

Sky is hawking something suspiciously familiar.
Intergalactic.
"Written by award-winning showrunner, Julie Gearey (Prisoners’ Wives, Cuffs, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), the series tells the story of fearless young cop and galactic pilot, Ash Harper (Savannah Steyn), who has her glittering career ripped away from her after being wrongly convicted of a treasonous crime and exiled to a distant prison colony. But on the way there, Ash’s fellow convicts stage a mutiny and seize control of their prison transfer ship. With the flight crew dead, mob leader Tula Quik (Sharon Duncan-Brewster), is intent on reaching the free world – Arcadia – with her gang; and Ash is the only pilot who can get them there. Ash is forced to join them on the run towards a distant galaxy and an uncertain future."

Blakes 7 anyone?

I've been watching star trek next generation recently and deep space nine today. How was this crap so successful? Bad acting, plots, sets, costumes, the whole thing is trash.

As a Trekker, I didn't mind TNG at first, it was nice to have somebody pick up the baton and try to move it on with some new product, but I lost interest when I realised just how many episodes were copy pasta TOS shows - I know the producers were trying to attract the TOS faithful, but I thought it was lazy.

The series I was most disappointed with was Enterprise, which seemed really laboured and ill thought out.

New Amsterdam (2018, Netflix) - 7/10

I was browsing the Netflix the other day and came across this hospital themed drama. I don't usually watch hospital dramas, the last one that I watched was the ER (1994). Anyway, started watching New Amsterdam, long story short, captivating and charismatic characters, well picked cast, I'm in the season 2 and still enjoying it. It's got a perfect balance of drama and comedy, it just works.

Suits (2011–2019, Netflix) - 7/10

So, there are no more episodes of New Amsterdam series avalible yet, so I opted for something completely different. I've never seen the show (Suits) before and so far so good. 4 episodes in and it feels very fresh, compared to modern Tv shows. 2011 was still the time when people were people, and there was no place for indoctrination of any kind on Tv. Also, Meghan Markle, at first I could not tell where I have seen her before, even wondered wether she was a porn star or something like that, as it appears she's The Duchess of Sussex. Embarassed Laughing

Sorry, it's hackneyed shite that plays every clichéd hospital drama in the book.

Pennyworth on Starzplay.

The early years of Alfred Pennyworth (Batman's butler). Its good, set in a DC universe London of the sixties. It plenty of groovy characters especially Paloma Faith as a northern psychotic lesbian henchwoman, think if Myra Hindley was working for ISIS. Lots of action, good plots, interesting and grotesque characters, even the a rather foxy Her Maj the Queen turns up and the fella playing Alfred Pennyworth does a bloody good impression of a young Michael Cain without it sounding like a piss-take.

Well worth it, 9 Stars (might go up to 10 if Queeny gets her norks out).

Finished all the Strike series.
Now on Amazon Prime, where I discovered a free series of The Handmaid's Tale*, which I have been looking to find for ages - although now I've started, I'm not so sure I'm going to really enjoy it.

*the version with the girl from Mad Men in it, which was highly acclaimed. I quite like her. She's got a knack for "quirky" parts.

also watched Your honour, recently which I found to be quite good.
