Going back to older sci fi shows and series.

I feckin loved Farscape and have it archived for rewatches/binge nights
For me, it was visually excellent, engaging and funny and didnt have the sometimes po faced sanctimonious attitude of the star trek universe shows.

Serenity/Firefly was jolly good fun too and on my watch again list and archive

Both were tv series and movies btw

The last season of Blake's 7 was a bit weak although...

(on discovering a guard with a knife sticking out of his back)

"Funny way to commit suicide."

"Maybe he was cleaning it and it went off!"

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Absurdist meta-comedy.

Watching this Netflix thing, "All the light we cannot see" - its about a radio operator in WW2, excellent.

I'm just starting episode 4 of 4, and its really emoshe.
Wub
But also very war-ish, french resistance and Nazzies and all that.
Bloody good.

*I never knew Hugh Laurie was balding. Gosh he must be getting on. Still would, though. Wub

Give it a go.

The Fall of the House of Usher

24-carat, solid gold proof that it's possible to update things "for a modern audience" and still maintain quality: combining a comment on the opioid crisis with the darkness of Poe's original works.

Really enjoy the books, and loved season 1

Just finished re-watching Life on Mars, and currently half way through Ashes to Ashes

Brilliant watch, and another one of those shows that could never be made today

I was recommended this Turkish thing, Intersection, by my sister in law, who recommended it as if it were a dirty little secret: "a Turkish melodrama...!" to which she finds herself addicted.

She's normally such an academic little thing, my sister in law - tries to be so sensible and intellectual, but she's got herself dragged into bingewatching the 'flix and she's horrified at how much she enjoys it.

Anyway, its not started well, this Intersection thing. I think its going to be like Dynasty but in Turkish. I don't mind subtitles, can cope with them just fine, but at the time I was not in the mood to have to read them and I absolutely don't understand any Turkish. Its all Greek to me. *shrug* Wink Wink

So I allowed myself to get sidetracked into The Sandman instead.
Much more my sort of thing by the look of it, but now I'm too tired to bingewatch and it will have to wait until after work tomorrow.

I'll go back to Intersection later, erm, sometime over Christmas ... although Thinking ... the Military Type speaks excellent Turkish so I might skim over that until he's asleep or something Shifty Laughing

I'm currently rewatching What We Do In The Shadows
and still enjoying/chuckling at it

I did wonder why the yanks hadn't fucked it up as they so often do
to imported films/shows then saw it was made in Toronto not murica.

If you like Matt Berry, (he was in Garth Marengi way back when)
Toast of London, Toast of Tinseltown and Year of the Rabbit
were good fun too IMO
I archived them all to watch again anyway

member Lovejoy from waaay back?
Ian McShane? antiques? Volvo estate?

I dimly recalled liking it back then and managed to download it to my archive a few years ago but a lot were just 480p AVi's
so looked like the telly back in the days when had crappy 605 line CRT tv's but the good/better episodes compensated for that.

Dont know if/when the writers changed but some episodes seemed poorly devised and written and would have still been crap even in 1080p or 4K so they got abandoned or nudged through.

I enjoyed it in the main though

Those shows went past me when they first came out but I grabbed and watched them a couple of years ago
Very good, glad I got round to watching them

War of the Worlds. I only started watching it because my car was used for filming when they were making series 2.

I happened to see the car in one of the episodes when I watched it the other day - all of 2 seconds from a quarter mile distance from the camera, it seemed. Still- got money from it.

Anyway- the programme itself.... Incredibly boring and slow. Not sure i'll bother beyond the end of the series I am currently watching.

Just finished watching season 2 & 3 actually (watched season 1 ages ago when it first came out)

Season 2 is ok, and at least gets to some sort of conclusion (not your typical edge of the seat cliff hanger)

Season 3 was a bit naff, but again came to a conclusion, but you can quite happily finish at the end of season 2

Hopefully they don't make anymore

Both seasons are way better than the Tom Cruise film. I did like Reachers sidekick in S1

Ian McShane

He was in American Gods. I had thought he must have died by then but apparently not. Cool Thumbs Up

Although I had a sorta-crush on him when he was the antiques dealer, he was vaguely dishy in American Gods but far surpassed by the Leprechaun whom I mostly only ogled, and didn't really pay much attention to what was going on Laughing

1670 (Netflix)

A Polish faux fly-on-the-wall documentary series that has more charm than it has any right to. If you enjoy things like What We Do in the Shadows and 17th Century European history this is for you!

Just finished watching season 2 of The Lazarus Project on Sky (available as a box set)

Quite impressed actually, with an unusual take on time travel, and plenty of twists and turns, not your usual type of time travel show

I'd give it 8/10

It's mad isn't it, how the top brass just flat out denied anything had happened for as long as they did, hoping they could simply sweep it under the carpet

A strategy so deeply ingrained in the system even Mikhail Gorbachev couldn't change it. (The Soviet Union wasn't broken up till Boris Yeltsin came along.)

On the one hand without the systemic lies the catastrophe would never have happened but on the other the State did have the power to conjure up a hundred thousand men and put them to work in an instant.

The Gentlemen, Netflix.
Typical Guy Ritchie stuff.
Vinnie Jones ages like the mature hunk of beef that he always was. Wub
