Hi

does anyone know of any bikes which will make good donor parts for my 1996 D3 GPZ500s?

I've just changed the rear shock for the SV650 which has made a massive difference and the Hagon fork springs have helped sort out the front but I'm looking to swap the rear end for something wider and the front end for something with much better brakes and better handling. It doesn't have to be USD front forks but wouldn't mind if it was.

Anyone done this before or any suggestions that wouldn't require too much cutting/welding?

The gpz frame is barely capable as it is, you would be better off getting a newer bike imo.

2nd that, unless you extensively reinforce the steering head and rear frame, anything bigger/better will just put twisting forces into the chassis.
They are about as light as they can be so weight reduction isnt an option either. Just treat it for what it is, quite a fiesty little thing but just a stepping stone to more capable machinery.

Best have a look over on https://www.ex-500.com, I seem to recall reading of some wider back conversions on there. But, as has been said above, the frame is the weak link.
