Right gents! Let's talk Baffles Wink

I (In all my glorious mechanical expertise) have just found out what baffles are... kinda Confused
To my understanding, baffles are cylinder type things in my exhaust that stop it from making excessive noise. As you can see, here is where my problem lies Mr. Green

Upon being mentioned in the Hindhead 'Tunnel Terror' thread, it occurred to me "Bloody hell my bike's quiet". So I was wondering if it's possible to remove the baffles on my BMW K1200 RS with a stock exhaust (I assume), and what horrible/fantastic side effects it would have on the bike as far as noise, performance and wear and tear on the exhaust is concerned.

Here's a couple of pics of said exhaust. (Again, i'm still pretty lost on what baffles are, but if someone can point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it)

(Is it them there ring thingimebobs?)

(Such beautiful condition...)

Hi

Well designed baffles won't have any great effect other than reducing noise and adding a bit of weight. Badly designed ones will destroy power.

You might well need to do a bit of playing round to sort out the mixture.

No idea about the BMW fuel injection system to know if this adjustment is easy to do (or even possible).

All the best

Keith

I've got a manual for the bike (Somewhere) I'll have a good read through that and see if it sheds any light on it. I'll let you know if I manage to destroy my bike in some way Wink
