Dear all

Those who know me know that I have two hobbies- knitting and upsetting my husband. Christmas is therefore a particularly special time, as I can combine the two. Twisted Evil

Cue this year's challenge: a heated tank top, but with a biking theme.

Have been looking at heated vests, but they're all expensive a/o very 'sensible'. I've been reading that you can rip the element out of a travel blanket and sew into a vest, so what better/worse gift than a personalised home-made heated tank top? Some of the blankets have adaptors to charge in a cigarette lighter, or some clever people have worked out a way to plug them into the bike rather than have to fit a sidecar for the million batteries required, but I lack the skills. So- any recommended cheap blankets I can destroy?

and more importantly, any ideas for the design on the front?

Here's a pic of a past birthday tank top, to 'celebrate' turning 33 and outliving Bruce Lee. The following year was going to be Jesus, but after the unexpected lack of wear this got, I couldn't be arsed.

Black top with a heating element style pattern in red and yellow.

Jusy by coincidence I saw the perfect thing yesterday, however as is only right and proper can I find it to post now? NO!!!! Evil or Very Mad

So as a very poor substitute I found this which is kind of similar, but not as good. The original one I saw had big arrows on the back pointing left and right with controllers on the arms to make 'em flash Very Happy

You can buy DIY heated clothing kits (google or ebay for it). They aren't very complicated and it's more expensive than the separate components, but you're paying for someone to have checked everything works correctly etc.
I was planning to get one set up with an interval timer unit for controlling heat level; which would be much better on battery life.

The picture has to be Nobcat, a true BCF icon.

Even better, someone's sent me this link:

https://www.heat4jackets.com/purchase.html

like the heated gusset option- you say that like noone's ever knitted a pair of pants before.... (it was a long time ago)Neutral

Carefully considering the other suggestions on here. I think, on balance, the heating element has the advantage over anything penile, (I've been enjoying the forum where that came from) Although, there is something appealing about a cosy bit of knitwear, lovingly emblazoned with abuse.

I'm glad I looked into this-thought you were being rude about DH's photo, until I found the appropriate forum.

Yes, nobcat represents the true spirit of BCF and Xmas all in one! I could do it, but I don't think it would be ready for this Xmas somehow. Wonder if it would get more or less wear than Bruce Lee. Hmm...

Pretty sure I heard Ste say if you do nobcat he will buy it off you for £1000 pounds. He also said he would wear it all year round without any underpants on, just the nobcat jumper.

Trust me- in knitting terms, it's almost too late- I've got so much crap to churn out and should have started in about April. Half an Elvis wig still to do before a birthday in 3 weeks, for example.

Another vote for nobcat, or at least just its head with the staring eyes. Thumbs Up

https://www.stedotcom.com/stuff/kitten1.jpg

It would provide much lol to any BCF'ers who saw him wearing it and he'd be blissfully unaware of what the random people were laughing at.

Just think Mr Woolly will be thinking his lovely wife has knitted him a super tanktop with a cute little cat on it!! Laughing

.................for extra lollage you could make the placement of said kitteh along the hemline Shifty

As above, + 3? for the nobcat stare. Put the stare at the bottom, there will be knowing laughs from BCFers but everyone else will just think it's cute.

Ooh, Steee, I think we may have a bit of telepathy going on. Worst case scenario, that would print up beautifully on a t-shirt. Those who know, would know...
