Interesting..... https://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Any opinions?

Doesn't really affect me as I'll probably never own a new bike. Laughing

Sounds reasonable enough, although I doubt I will ever have a brand new bike either...

Yeah, it sounds good in theory - but I wouldn't try it on my own bike until it had been proven conclusivly Confused

I'd like to see what Keith says about it. Not sure that I'd like to risk it tbh.

I'll be trying that when I get my motorised skateboard. Sounds good to me.

Also remember the new Honda running instructions are to use it normally, just not whack the throttle fully open or run it at the redline for ages for the first 300 miles.

The important bit is warming it up fully, particularly with 2 strokes as they'll cold seize. Thats nasty.

Hi

It does make sense. As he says rings seal by being forced out from the pressure between them and the piston. However too much abuse is likely to lead to too much of a build up of heat I would suspect.

Personally I would say combine the idea of the odd full throttle blast (not full revs) with the normal running in schedule.

Run an engine in for too long and you will kill it.

All the best

Keith

Its a good idea but you must not put the engine under constant load afaik because of the bits of swarf that will be broken off by the hard revving. they could get caught twixt piston and bore causing scoring. Its best to rev the engine hard but aim not to keep it at constant revs.

Caining your bike is good for it Thumbs Up Twisted Evil

Case in point: my RVF. Used to run like bollocks after a spell of being used for commuting but a few minutes of high speed / max revs abuse always brought it back to feeling just right.

I dont know about this..... surely if this guys method is sooooo fantastic and safe, the manufacturers would have lached onto it by now? After all, he says you can get 2-10% more power, which any manufacturer would grasp if it was that easy!

Anyway, don't need to worry about that until I get a new bike!!!

Let us know if anyone tries it.

Cheers

I suppose the reason why the manufacturers dont recommend it is cos it is so easy to cock it up. You have to follow the guidelines carefully in order to do it right. So the manufacturers find it easier to treat everyone as idiots in order to have less bikes returned to them as faulty.

I definitely recommend further research before trying the new method though.

small new kid - getting a motorised skateboard off ebay, they cost about 180-200 quid and have a cheap minimoto engine.

So.. cheap thrills. Can always sell it in the local paper at a profit.
