So, a bit of a rant / scary story about my journey into work this morning ...

Am on the A3220 heading towards the Holland Park roundabout, at a set of traffic lights I do something a little bit naughty and ride up the left-hand turn only lane and then at the front move across to lane 2 to go straight on. A scooter in front has done the same and not left a load of space so I sit just to the front left of a Merc's bonnet ready to go when the lights change.

Take off from the lights with no problems at all but about 300 meters later I move over into lane 2 to turn right, doing about 30 the Merc drives right up beside me window down and shouting, I carry on then he shouts louder and the drives aggressively into lane two towards me, cutting me up / trying to run me off the road! Bit scared by this point so stop completely, so does the Merc driver who shouts something in broken English about me driving on the left then speeds off.

I presume all this was because I filtered in-front of him from the left at the (red) traffic lights. Probably not a 100% legit manoeuvre but his reaction was frankly scary, shook me up a bit. Wishing I had got his plate now and reported it.

Just thought I'd share that horrible journey, only been riding a few months (125cc) hope it isn't that frequent an occurrence!

Reminds me of....

Black lines depict the flow of traffic heading towards the bottom of the pic.
red line is bloke in some rover estate
green splodge/star is me.

https://i54.tinypic.com/15514w3.png

where the red line kinks in is where the rover twat came flying up on the left hand side cut up an artic lorry, causing it to drop the anchors and swerve into my lane.

using my cat-like reflexes i pinned the throttle and the artic must have been about 12" off my back wheel in my mirror Shocked

a bit further up the road i was next to afore mentioned twat.
I communicated in the following manner.
https://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac266/nonickbrand/gifs/NoFingerWaggle.gif?t=1269557428

The twat responded by showing me his middle finger and driving towards me.

Cat like skills kicked in again and i was infront of him.
I started to slow a little until he was close enough and threw a load of rubber onto his grill, bonnet and windscreen thanks to the well known "rolling burnout"

I let go of the front brake and filtered like a demon up and over the flyover.
The twat tried to follow but shit it when he realised he couldnt follow me between 2 artics at 70mph.

can i get a CSB please?

cheers

Ha, a bit of a naughty maneovre, I have to admit I do it all the time, luckily we have the acceleration to do it on motorbikes, though I imagine the police wouldn't take kindly to it Smile

There's a two lane roundabout on my way home that everyone queues on the right for so I just go up the left and out-accelerate everyone.

Quid pro quo I guess?

He obviously was annoyed at the fact you filtered in such a way. Admittedly his reaction was a bit over the top but if you were on a bigger motorcycle (PASS YOUR TEST OLOLOL) you'd have been able to accelerate away and forget about it.

A lot of 125cc motorcycles and their riders are bullied on the road due to their size, it's sign to pass your test and then do a CaNsA on the bloke next time you seem him. Thumbs Up.

I do it regularly on my way home, junction lights, road on the left, two lanes, one straight on, one right into a pub (I know, how weird). All the cars are in the left lane to go straight on. I run down the right, sometimes past three or four hundred yards of cars and beat them off the line. I used to wait on the line until some twat decided he wanted to play. Now I go past the line and sit in front of the lead car.

Did it the other way (following the red line above) the other morning, nowt in the left turn lane, 8 cars going straight on, I rolled up the left of them and was about 3 cars from the front, in 1st when the lights changed. I was away and gone before the first car even moved.

Nice rant though. You should've kicked his door in.

I know exactly where you mean.
Naughty naughty Tut Tut ... you shouldn't be on that inside lane undertaking anyway.

HOWEVER ... its a risk we all take if we choose to "undertake" on that inside left lane.

Yes, we shouldn't do it.
Yes, we occasionally do.

I don't think we can shout too loudly when someone who is in the CORRECT lane gets themselves all bent out of shape about it.

But I'd have a go at assuming the injured-innocent-party-mantle as well - and if I got away with it, then I'd be trying to kick in their doors, too Laughing

Its more legal and sometimes safer to learn to filter between two lanes, than to take the risk of that inside left hand lane (and worse: the bicycle lane).

P.S. The bicycle lane is for pussies (unless in an extreme emergency / very bad traffic)

Use the bicycle lane quite frequently when the wankers are taking up too much room on the right. Again, a move I wouldn't do in front of the po-po.

You might find if you do a rapid launch, get clear away, and then move over that you will get less irate driver responses.

I just let the wanker have his tantrum and get well in front of me, then a few seconds later at the next traffic jam I filter past him (as loudly as possible), which hopefully leaves him in state of helpless impotent rage!

Thanks for the replies guys, gives me the moral support to make the journey home!

After the fact I really did feel like I had the right to get a bit more aggressive in return, especially as we'd both stopped and I was in full gear with hard knuckled gloves Smile Still, the guy looked, sounded and acted like Tony Montana on a coke binge so I was pretty much crapping it at the time!

Not put me off biking though, just inspired me to get on with the DAS course sooner and leave these nobbers behind Smile

It's pointless getting aggressive, worst case scenario is you wind up stopping a bullet, or flying off into disaster blinded by your own rage.

I really believe in these situations that (to quote the Klingons) revenge is a dish best served cold, or rather extremely smugly when you filter past said psycho/twat.

Hah, yep am not really an aggressive type either, pretty sure I wouldn't have lasted 5 seconds in reality!

There is a certain smugness in knowing that however much I might have held him up by doing 30 in a 30 he was still gonna hit the same queue of traffic at the end of the road whilst I could have filtered by (on the right this time!!!)

I find in these situations parking the bike in font of their car, getting off, walking around to their window, knocking on it and asking politely what the problem is generally diffuses the situation rather quickly.

In most cases you'd be right, you can come a cropper though, win lose or draw, regrettable.

He probably comes from some appalling shit hole where car drivers are treated with deference, unlike over here where bikes treat cagers with the utter contempt they deserve.

If someone actually got out of a car to have a go at me I'd stick them on their back, no question about it.
