I bought myself a new HJC helmet last Saturday, if feels comfortable enough, if a little tight, but everybody keeps reassuring me it will ease off with wear.

My problem is that it leaves a very obvious red mark on my forehead which takes about 10 minutes to go, it's bad enough that people think I have head-butted somebody. To me that sounds like it is too tight?

I usually end up with lids that are a little too big, so I'm not sure how tight a well fitted helmet should feel.

It might be a tiny bit too tight but give it a few more weeks and it will probably bed into the shape of your head.

Probably bad to admit this... but I took a stanley blade to the front padding on my batman lid, kept leaving a solid mark on my head... skimmed a few mm off and it was perfect.

Still in use also Laughing

I've considered it, I'd rather do that than waste the £160 I spent on the lid.

Exactly the same as my mate with a YBR, every time he pulled it off he had a massive red square on his forehead that took ages to go, he told me the more he wears it the less tight it'll be till he ended up buying a new AGV K3 the other week Thinking

But still, better tight than loose Thumbs Up

i would say as long as the hard padding is not pressing against your head it is ok.... i actually have a size Small HJC which is a really snug fit ( the M and L feels ok as well ?)... .. i think the basic shell is the same size except they increase the padding for different sizes so shouldn't matter to play with the soft pads ....not sure i would go shaving the outer shell though?

Surely that's a question only your missus could answer?

On a serious note, as long as it isn't uncomfortable to the point of giving headaches it'll be fine. My Spada lid was tight as aresholes when I got it, but not uncomfortable and within a couple of weeks had bedded in nice and feels perfect on. It's better to put up with a bit of tightness for a little while than have a loose and sloppy feeling lid in the long term.

Thumbs Up

knew a guy with a similar problem with one of those shark flip fronts, I pulled back the fabric lining and there was a square foam pad stuck to the EPS, peeled it off and gave it back to him, no problem!

My lid was doing the same but was a good fit on the cheeks etc so I bought the top removable lining insert from the size above and that sorted it. Not sure if your lid has the removable lining though Confused

ooohh I thought this was going to be a smutty post given the title...Sad I have found the cheaper the make of lid, the more/ quicker they loosen up. When I say cheap I dont mean that rudely. I just mean the lids costing less seem to bed in and give much quicker and further. IE my RST lid which i love but was cheaper than my Arai has loosened up further and quicker. Give it some more time I would. Unless it is actually painful to wear and is distracting. Then I would say you might have to rethink.

I'd give your lid a little more time to give a little.
