after seeing how my 600 srad faired against blades, r1's and gixxer thou's at brands hatch in the straights ive decided i want something bigger!! (obviously i dont need it but thats not the point).

a quick glance over ebay has shown i can get around 98-00 blade or r1's but what would be the best for this budget? obviously im not aware of faults of dif models in dif years etc

Without a doubt the Blade. More comfortable, easier to ride and every bit as fast.

I've seen early GSXR 1000s, perhaps pre-crashed with aftermarket fairings go for that.

The blades, in my experience, AREN'T as fast, at least from those times - the 1000RR caught up a tad.

Oh and I've had great fun at Snetterton (very long straight) keeping up with litre bikes and in some cases passing them on a 600 - sort your corner exit speed Smile.

If you want sporty, I'd go for the Yamaha, or GSXR if you can find one.

It seems the standard fueling on a 00 'blade actually means they can be less than friendly - though normally Hondas are a bit more over-all friendly compared to other makes.

929 blade for the ergonomics and chassis! Sublime brakes and very good stock suspension. Make up in the corners what you lose in the straights. Treat it like a 600 on roids!

G is correct about the standard fuelling being glitchy, especially winding it in 1st gear. Power commander merely masks the symptoms rather than cure it.

A well ridden 600 will more than happily keep up with thous because for the reason G stated.

Have you ever considered a big twin?
vtr, rsv, tl?
I don't track but I have found the big twins to be more fun to ride.

He wanted a bike with more go on the straights - big twin will only have a diddy bit more.

I'd often find myself pretty much matching a RSV down the straights when it seemed the rider was fairly similarly skilled - ie we were both getting on the power at a similar time, etc.

cheers for the replies guys!

and Minty: I really appreceate the offer, but I would have a hard time with the "mend it" part at the moment!

got a few things im watching on ebay at the moment at least! some very good prices on some of these!

one thing I may have missed, but what are the Aprillia RSV's like? for some reason there are loads at around 2 grand with less than 10k on the clock, is there any reason for this? are they unreliable or just generally sh!t ?

FANTASTIC bikes.

Personnal choice, but i'd rather an Aprillia VTwin throbbing away than a screamy IL4 1000cc.

Why not keep the 600, go on a track school, and gain the satisfaction from beating those 1000cc's on your older 600cc instead? Far more fun Very Happy

whilest I do agree its unnecessary and i could outrun them with better cornering skills, i also do a lot of miles on the bike and doesnt feel right wringing its neck to get everywhere, so ideally want something a bit more torque to it!

I find playing 'giant killer' much more fun.

People seem to get lazy on the big thou's and you can easily catch them sleeping coming out of corners.

I say learn to use the power of the 600 more.

I got a literally immaculate 14,000 mile K2 GSXR1000 for 600 notes more than your budget.

think ive decided between a 200-2001 blade or a RSV

not sure how they measure up against each other, but both seem quite obtainable at 2-2.5 k!

As above, both will still be a bit lacking on the straights compared to an R1/GSXR1000 etc. Still better than an SRAD however.

As I said, often found myself matching RSVs at Snetterton on my R6 pretty much.
