Pit bike/monkey bike to beat a parking ban...

Where I work we cant park on-site anymore and the park and ride is a 2-3 mile run from the main gate then another half mile to my building.

I can get onsite with a motorbike so no problems normally but I have seen a bloke turn up at the park and ride, retrieve a little pit bike out the back of his car and then pootle up to the gate on it and its got me wondering if I could do that as an alternative to the bus that adds more than an hour to my day.

Are there any comercially available road legal pit bikes that I could lift into the boot of my xtrail for such a purpose? It doesnt have to be spectacular and Ive seen a fe but Im more curious about the physicalities of it. Anyone reccommend one? I'm not going to cycle it and I wont be taking the bike in winter much so I thought it might occassionally be a bit of a laugh and save me some time!

Anyone else tried anything like this? Pain in the arse? Unreliable?

I had a road legal one, all I can say is make yourself VERY obvious on the road.. I was hardly ever seen That and lock it up... big time.

Fantastic little things, cheap as chips to run, got around 90 miles to the £3 I put in my tank and if I can fit that in the Supra, im sure you can in an X Trail..

Ebay has some Shineray ones at the moment 125 and 150cc I think, £800 though I paid 400 for mine with 385 miles on a 58 plate.

i have a Monkey bike

i have used it to travel into Douglas and back which is 22 miles and some of the roads i use have no speed limit not took it around mountain course yet . My bike is a Easy Rider M50D which made by jincheng. Its only a 49cc engine but will do about 40mph with me on it. Monkey bikes are normally road legal and is always some on ebay, you can get bigger engines in them and manual or semi auto gearboxes.

The size can be a worry at first but i have a fluorescent yellow helmet on and my jacket is hi viz away just to try and help people see me if that fails always the horn

I hate cycling, cyclists and lycra so its out the question. I would have to buy a push bike in the first place and even then Id never be seen dead wearing one of those stupid helmets either.

At least the little pit bike would be interesting and useful for knocking about, a pushbike would be a work only item and not worth the cash!

Im fairly sure you can only do the gear cycle (ie 3rd -> 1st when stationary...

Well in a standard cub anyway...

This one definitely went through the gear box.

Dont know if mine was buggered or not. Mine was a c90. None of the wires were connected to anything apart from the spark plug.
Is the cycling stopped electronically?

It would go into neutral rather than 1st.
The rotary boxes are on the pit bikes too. They usually have a 4 speed, all down box.

ant do, theres approx ten thousand people work on the site and the rules are the rules! Its in the middle of nowhere too and if I abandoned it in the verge it would be removed or blown up!
