This is a long one, pull up a chair

It's that time again . Oh noes

Basics, 39, 2 years ncb, good area, st1100 abs 1999 & st1100 abs 1998
9 points, 1 non fault accident.
----------------------------------------

So far, start to get a quote from onesure insurance, message pops up, they'll ring me within 15 mins. That was 90 mins ago. (24 hrs later still no call)
--
Swinton, I get all the way through every possible detail before a popup tells me if i want business or courier insurance I have to call this number to go through all the details yet again to get a quote.

So far been on hold for 14 minutes, another 9 going through details again and then back on hold.

2 mins to get prices, £646 tpf&t, £471 tp only

Now gone to have a word with manager !!!

Comes back with £50 knocked off the tpf&t price so now its £596.93

He's calling me back at midday.
--
called back early, 11:50
I've asked about having my 2 identical bikes insured on 1 policy, on hold again.

After 9 mins he comes back, then I remember to check it includes European usage

On hold again, another 6 mins and he says he'll call back so i'm not left on hold

£628.23, both bikes, euro usage, tpf&t, £250 excess

--------------------

Ribble, seem a bit useless, asked the questions. first and almost last question was dob, do they need it twice?
Said they'd try to call back within an hour, so that'll be 2 calls then as they didn't bother calling me back at the last renewal when I called for a quote.
(Ribble insurance never called back either but thats no less than to be expected from them)

--------------------

Bikesure
on hold again, got to love it.
Took only 1 minute to speak to someone.
10 mins of giving details, down to the finest pointless questions
On hold for 3 mins before they came back and told me they'd be double the swinton price
---------------------

So, I pay my deposit to swinton, job done.........

Today after a recomendation thought id try a Carol Nash quote, just to see....

Carol nash.
"Hi, i'l looking for a quote for courier motorcycle insurance......."

"whats your occupation?" Laughing

15 mins to do all the details and the price £447.61 Shocked

Full euro use, same cover as uk
AA breakdown inc homestart
legal protection
£1000 helmet and leathers cover
excess cover

Asked about having both bikes on the policy, £478.43 Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Speak to Nial at Carol Nash. 0800 988 0261 ext 2528

back to swinton to cancel yesterdays insurance buying mistake

Swinton courier motorcycle insurance want £18.50 cancellation fee for the policy i arranged yesterday, PLUS they're keeping the non refundable deposit i paid yesterday of £63 still leaves me £90 better off though and means we know who to avoid, Can't believe swinton motorbike insurance stich you up for £81 for arranging insurance 22 hours ago and that they've not even had to send documents out for it.

Don't suppose there's any redress through the 14 days cooling off?

Small update

Taking out a policy was not the end of it.

Had docs sent out, exclusions list contained 'use as a courier'

Not helpful for a courier, phoned them, sorted it after being told courier cover is a special type of insurance, thanks captain obvious.

Week later, new docs arrived, exclusion, 'courier use' FFS !!!!

Phoned again, spoke to someone, sorted it. Asked for emailed copy of docs and he said yes, previously they had all said no.

Came through and finally the docs are right.

Week later the correct docs arrive in the post, and then again today, i'll probably get another set tomorrow.

Always check the wording on your docs, especially if you are not covering the norm

This Carole Nash?

They always screw up my documents too. I give up trying to get them to send out the correct ones. Rolling Eyes And i'm not even something as specific as a courier - we're merely talking a multibike policy with a non-fault accident on record. Even the dates of when i got my licence don't show up correctly (a few months out, and apparently this is some limitation of their system i've been told!)

That said, MUCH cheaper than even 10 hours on the phone could find me.

You see, i record the conversations in their entirity, so if brown smelly ever does hit the fan, i've got the verbal contract recorded anyway, irrespective of whatever data entry / systems "mistakes" have occurred on THEIR end (as i'd be happy to remind the financial osbudsman / judge as appropriate, before asking to claim damages Thumbs Up ) . Not that i'd be wanting to rely on this if i was riding for a living.

I think mine's out by a few months too, no doubt a victim of the Carole Nash system. Otherwise they're right (so far). I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that apart from TP aspects, motor insurance is a complete scam run by crooks and not worth the paper any of it is written on.

This is why i'm TPO - it's about the only thing that the road traffic act protects from as far as insurer-led scams go (it reverses the burden of taking the case to court to the insurance company, rather than with comp claims where if the insurer says no to your payout you're probably left with the hassle/expense of court action as your only option to claw it back).

The (probably over-paranoid) cynic in me would even suspect this licence dates error business being intentionally put the back of "system issues to sort", as a material fact being incorrect is sufficient basis to throw out a claim, isn't it (and most people don't record calls)? Wink

Yeah, i'm TPO for a reason...

Yep, carole nash

Getting the quote was fairly easy, and very cheap.

Good area, 9 points, 5k non fault, two bikes covered tpft, euro use, pillions and euro wide breakdown cover for £478

Now i've got the correct docs, in duplicate plus in pdf i'm fairly happy

I had the same thing with them, gave me an amazing quote, half the price of everything else, then when the docs came through it said I had 2ncb I had 1 or 0 can't remember, didn't list and accident and didn't have the 6 points I declared. Apparently some of the directors listened to the call where I declared exactly what was correct then gave me the insurance and the low price!

No. They cannot do that.

Financial Services (Distance Marketing) Regulations 2004 section 9. You can only be charged for the cost of services actually provided - i.e. the initial arrangement, not the cancellation - plus the actual proportion of the insurance provided.

File a complaint, cite the above regulation, say you'll take it to the Financial Services Ombudsman (which will cost them £400) and watch them fold like a nun bluffing on a pair of sevens.

Shocked

That's pretty piss-poor even for an insurer.

In this case, it's the Information Commissioner's Office, although they're pretty toothless compared to the FSO.

Threaten them with the Insurance Ombudsman (or equivalent) ... and then follow thru with sending details to the Ombudsman anyway.

I had a problem with a smart arse "manager" at Swinton (about my car, not my bike: Swinton Bikes have been sweet-as for me, so far)

As soon as I reported them to the Insurance Ombudsman (and put in a personal complaint against the so-called "manager") ... they backed down and cancelled the £120 they were trying to charge me.

Swindleton did the same to me (over car insurance) wish i'd reported them but the manager said they would keep hold of the full amount of my policy till the complaint was finalised and I needed the money for the other insurance policy that was cheaper.
I now refuse to go anywhere near them for anything. Robbing c**ts.

I've done the FSO complains as above and also the Information Commissioner's Office complaint about the data protection issue.

£60 was all I wanted, now they can deal with government bodies.

I doubt any action at all but bit of luck they might bend them over, after all, the government need to find 15billion for greece and its got to come from somewhere
