Need some new tyres for the Hornet soon, looking at the options I have come up with Michelin road pilot 3's, Bridgestone bt023's, Dunlop road smarts or the Pirelli angels.

Was wandering if anyone has any experience with any of them, mainly looking at the Michelins and Bridgestones at the moment, but if anyone has any other suggestion it would be helpful

Cheers.

What kind of use?

Commuting? Fast road (be honest)? Normal road? touring?

Theres a whole thread on Hornet tyres over at the nest mate Wink

Mine has Diablo Corsas on at the moment (the plain old type, not the IIIs or the Rossos) and they are good for the mix of riding I do so thats short trips to work, roundabout surfing, occasional trackdays, a quick blast into Wales and the occasional weekend away. £150/pair but only 3k to a rear. Just changed it and the front is as new. Cool

Normal road I guess, I attempt to ride fast but the last time I really tried that I ended up in a ditch Laughing so normal and a bit of quick riding.

No commuting right now, but may be putting some motorway miles ocasionally

Had Bridgestones (BT021, then BT023) on the Bandit until recently.... commuting and normal road riding in all weathers, and would happily fit them again Thumbs Up

Also had BT45's on the old GPZ, and would therefore happily recommend Bridgestone.

However, I've also been open to other suggestions if the opportunity should arise. Mainly with regard to researching a tyre with similar performance to the Bridgestone, but preferably with a lower price?

Cool will look into them. How exactly are you supposed to pick a tyre? so many out there and everywhere you read tells you that each of them have the cutting edge technology, and the reviews say similar for each of them. Far too confused, does it just come down to the best looking tread pattern? Laughing As you can tell this is my first time buying tyres

Like oils it all comes down to personal preference.

Personally I don't like Michelins or Avons. Pirelli, Metzler and Bridgestone in that order for me.

as above, whatever takes your fancy/ you prefer

i have bt016s on my bike, but it is only used as a toy. they are extremely good tyres but i would not recommend if you know your going to do considerable motorway miles. they are multi compound ( so harder in the middle) but there still soft tyres so would square quickly

if you arent going to do much upright miles then i would recommend Very Happy

Bridgestones for me Thumbs Up
All my sportier bikes have had them on.

Never really liked Pirelli.

But then I like Avons for touring on the FJ so I'll shut up now. Laughing

I have the angels on my CBR6 - they have been brilliant, done 2.5k on them now and they have been ace. They have worn a tiny amount and despite the majority of my mileage being motorway/dual carriageway the profile is still nice and round and there is LOADS of tread left.

Sporty weekend riding wise I haven't had any slips or slides, no cause for concern, they do what you ask of them in a predictable manner and warm up quickly. I don't do trackdays so cannot comment on how they cope with extremely hard riding.

They are pretty ideal for the hornet.

Just replaced a set of Angel ST with the Pilot road 3's.

Had no problem with the Angels in any condition and I used them from the end of last summer all through winter. The Pilot roads have only been on for a couple of weeks and so far only in the dry but they seem pretty good.

Mainly used for fast commuting motorway and A roads and the occasional weekend blast.

Just makes the choice so hard Laughing I like the look of the Michelins, got a set of sport pilots on it now and they are lovely, but the rear has squared off. As I have insurance coming soon it may just come down to prices

Got a set of Pilot Road 2's going on the RR on Saturday, 3's were just too pricey for less mileage.

I've been through two sets of B023's and can't fault them. Good mileage, good wet performance and good enough to knee down in the summer.

The Road III's have been getting some very good wet weather performance reviews. One chap has said that knee downs in the wet are possible. They also look pretty cool, like motogp wets.

Roadsmarts are good from cold, good in the wet, loads of grip wet and dry, good mileage.

I see no reason why you'd ever need anything stickier on the road, and I'm not exactly slow.

Another for Pirelli Angel ST.

The Daytona had these fitted from 9k, I sold the bike at 14k and they didnt even look worn... at all...

Never felt a slip on them, m0l0t0v complained about lack of "feel" from them, but he is a homo... dont listen to him Laughing

Roadsmarts!

Awesome tyres, wet, dry, hot, cold, you name it they handle it!

I ve been through most of the above tyres and will always go back to the roadsmarts for everyday riding with commuting and weekend hooning (tis the first tyre I have felt confident enough to KD with)

Think I'm looking at 9-10k miles with my current rear...

Just thought I would update this, got some BT023's fitted this morning.

Havent really ran them in yet as the weather wasn't looking so good, so thought I would wait till it's nice. But so far they feel amazing, they encourage you to tip it in. First time I have ever felt so good on tyres, and I have only done 20 miles on them Laughing

Also new tyres aren't as bad as I thought they would be, was expecting to be sliding all over but they are very planted. Obviously just got to be careful the first 20-30 miles
