I only did 700 miles on my TZR last year, but I was sorting out some teething problems. Now I have confidence in it, I'm riding it a lot more. 1300 miles since early March.

Not the bike, but my MR2 turbo used to sit for months on end as I had the works van and mrs' motor.
It did around 800miles between mots one year then less than 600 the next. It had to go Crying or Very sad

One year I did 141 miles on the BMW between MOTs, and I have had a 227 mile year on the CB. Fuel aside, the bike costs me about £12 a month to run so it wasn't to depressing. Just a bit.

Just depends on whether you use your bike as a means of transport of a bit of fun.

I do about 150 miles a week at the moment not including riding for fun, Between July and Feb I was doing 90 miles a day 5 days a week so that clocked up the miles pretty quickly.

Had a car once that did minus 26 miles between MOT's - don't ask how that happened Shocked

Definitely not getting enough seat time this year - I'll be out later this afternoon trying to rectify that. I think the CBR's seen about 1500 miles in my ownership of it. Not enough

You'll find a lot of fair weather bikers will have next to no miles.

It's preference really, the younger you are, the more likely you'll have a bike as your main form of transport, so more miles.

usually it's older people with full time jobs and families that don't do much miles on the bike.

Long as it's not sitting in a garage being neglected for years on end....

Mind you, if you come to sell it, low milage is a good point Wink

I use mine primarily as a bit of fun at the moment but ive still managed to do 600miles since I picked it up at the end of January. I like having the option of being able to go by two wheels or four but I do get jealous when I sit in a traffic jam and see bikes filtering through now.

As for the original question, I have yet to put a bike through an MOT but I manage to do about 6000 miles a year in my car. Never had a car that wasnt worth keeping due to low mileage.

I've done about 13k on mine in 18 months and I ONLY use it for fun at weekends (or the odd day off work) when it's not raining. Also I'm old-ish, I have a family (and a very understanding wife Thumbs Up ) and am yet to go abroad on it.

I use the car for everything else and have done 5k in that already in the past five months.

I do see the kids now and again Wink

My brother purchased his '98 R1(yes, my brother actually is Chuck Norris)from our neighbour in 2005.

When he bought it, the bike had just over 800 miles on the clock, and hadn't even had it's first 'proper' service, it had pretty much only just been run in for him.

So, that's an average of around 115 miles per year, however, in the 3 years that my brother and i had him as a neighbour, i saw him use the bike twice - each time for no longer than 15 minutes.

Even taking into account the '98s legendary status, i'd be amazed if he could cover 230 miles in 30 minutes (an average speed of 460mph), so i'm guessing that the majority of the 800 miles was racked up in the first few months of ownership.

My neighbour's 'excuse' for doing so little mileage was that he only had TPFT insurance as he couldn't afford fully comp insurance, and was worried about dropping the bike and losing his money. Personally, i reckon he hadn't discovered that 'the slightest twist of the throttle alters speed as required', and had shit his pants on the first few rides.

For my brother, it meant that he basically got a 'brand new secondhand' bike for a fraction of the cost, and after a change of fluids, pads and tyres (and a good old fashioned Italian tune-up) it was as sweet as a nut, and he still owns it to this day.

..............7 & 1/2 miles since last MOT (over 1 year ago), been sat poorly in storage/garage for a year and half. It's almost there now but most that time it was still taxed, and insured.

I've done 3500 miles on the SV since the end of March. Neutral.

Does it make me less of a biker? Rolling Eyes How about the fact that I was clocking up mileage on two wheels when half the BCF population were still in their nappies? Laughing

Yes I use my bike less these days, yes I only ride when it's dry, yes I would rather do my shopping in my car than calculate how much will actually squeeze into my panniers. Do I care whether I'm classified as a true biker or not.... Thinking

Don't bring up the "true biker" debate shiz.

P.S. You'd consider me to still be in nappies.

Indeed!

The bike is my only form of transport though, I refuse to pay £4k for insurance when it goes down to £2.5k on my 18th birthday in 3 months, so that's why the miles rack up.

I imagine once I get a car... it won't change a lot. Laughing.
