I have a 93 gsx 750 f Katana engine currently for sale and have had a couple of offers sent to me but I really don't know what it's worth?

Only fault, it has had a head gasket weeping for a while which I wasn't aware of until I had stripped it out the bike but wasn't down on power or didn't smoke or use any oil.

Pete was going to have it but distance and situation meant he couldn't pick it up but he mentioned it is the 'dot cast' engine and could be quite desireable.

I'm not putting a link because I don't want to 'tout'. I just wanted to know what anyone thought it was roughly worth. i.e what would be considered as a sensible offer for a quick sale.

I did start it again before I stripped the bike and the lump itself ran fine although lumpy but I'm putting this down to the fact the carbs were badly bunged up and I had to drain and refill the bowls just to get it to start.

Just to be clear, I'm not touting, I don't need to. It's only been on auction for less than a day and there are already 21 people watching it. Cool
I've started it at 30 quid but have been offered 80 by two seperate people. Should I sell or hold out?

Well I bought a 1998 125 single engine for £125.

An engine for my 2000 GSXR is going for £500.

Unsure of what mileage you have... but i'd definitely hold out. £80 seems pretty low.

Should have said, I live down the road from Pete. Laughing

750 katana/teapot motor is less sought after than the GSXR750 oilcooled motor, far less desirable than a 1052 or 1127 GSXR1100 engine, 1127 GSXF1100 and the bandit 1200 engine
As for "dot cast" doesn't really mean anything.

Main thing for those motors is whether it has a rocker or shim head and whether it is the short or long stroke version. I cannot recall exactly which version is in the teapot.

Hold out and you might get 150 or so for it. 100 shouldn't be hard to get.

Except that it has the same valve size as the 1127 but when fitted is higher compression.

Not sure if I'm reading that right but this engine is oil cooled.

Me neither. I wouldn't know how to tell?

I know what you're saying but is there any way I can tell or prove this?

About £250. You could try the bandit forum as they fit in the early 600 bandit. Quite a few have made this change. Unless you are skint and need the cash dont take the £80 offer.

@sickpup

Never paid much heed to the 750s other than robbing a frame from a dead one! Didn't remember that one. Hed probably be better off ripping the head off and parting the thing out.

@jimbothe

bandits, teapots, inazumas and early gsxrs all run variations of the same basic oilcooled engine. Various design changes but they are all similar and pretty much will all swap as entire lumps. The engine first arrived with the gsxr750 in 85.

It would probably be easier to read the spec sheet and compare it against other related motors than tearing the motor apart.

As for the head, oldskoolsuzuki is full of oilboiler gixxer nerds who would be able to tell you.

Cheers for the above. No I'm not desperate for the money but don't want to feel like I'm ripping someone off by them paying top dollar knowing it has a head gasket weep, even though I've listed it as such...
