Hello,

Sorry If this is a re-post, but I'm really struggling to find any USEFUL information that's easy to understand regarding certain things.

Basically I need to do my full licence as cheap as possible, and for this reason I'm leaning mostly towards sitting both modules on my 125.

However I'm confused as to this statement on the Directgov website (I'll post a link at the end so you can read the whole thing if you wish.)

Quote:
Existing motorcycle or tricycle riders
If you already have motorcycle entitlement, it won't change under the new rules. However, if you want to ride bigger bikes, you'll need to follow the rules for new riders below.

So is this saying that if I sit my restricted licence on my bike this year, I'll still get the entitlement to have the restriction automatically come off after two years, or will I than have to sit my DAS anyway?

as always these things are written in a way as to not actually answer anything, only warrant more questions.

Here is the link, maybe you could make more sense of it than me and explain if, if I do my restricted licence now, the current laws will apply, or whether I will have to take my test on a 500 after 2 years anyway (In which case I'll just do it now and save the hassle, although my missus and bank manager wouldn't like it lol)

Pass before the changes come in and you'll automatically get a license after 2 years doing the A2/33bhp test.

So you want to pass before Jan 2013.

OK, my intention was to pass before January anyway because of the uncertainty of riding unsupervised on L plates, I need my bike to get too and from work and will be stuffed without it, but as money is tight, I can only afford to do it on my 125 without any formal training as such ( I know a few riders, some experienced, other's recently passed who can take me and teach me so to speak)

I was just worried that even doing that, come next year the new rules would mean I had to sit a DAS to get on an unrestricted machine, rather than waiting the 2 years and it automatically change to an unrestricted licence.

Thanks for reassuring me Smile

Pass under current rules for standard bike & get Full A >25Kw until XX/XX/201X and that's a given it will become Full A on whatever date.

Only real drop off is that 'Accelerated Access' to up grade before restriction expired would not be available... though I think you could still re-test under DAS rules, which is essentially the same thing.

Beautiful, that's what I had hoped.

Get my restricted now so I can definitely ride my 125 unhindered come January, then sit my DAS if I feel I need to and money permits at a later date.

Thanks for clarifying that lads, I guess I had better start practising for the theory Smile

Brief note: I agree that's almost certainly the case, and I can't conceive of any way that an A<=25kW license could be converted to any of the new license classes.

However, we still haven't seen the bleeping legislation, and if the DVLA can find any possible way to screw it up up, they will.

Surely they can't change existing licences, even if they wanted to? They're changing the tests and I sat a different test, so surely they can't change that in to the 3LD.

It'll be a pain if they do; me riding my bike would be illegal under the 3LD wouldn't it?

They can do whatever the heck they want, until forced to stop.

It's almost inconceivable, but remember, this is the licensing agency that continues to lists "A2" under previous entitlement, while at the same time acknowledging that no such category currently exists. Shocked

However, it's not worth worrying about, current Learners should just get a license, any license. Stop THINKING, start DOING. Thumbs UpWinkThumbs Up
