A quick random find on the Internet's, thought I would share.

https://motorcyclepowersockets.co.uk/

Was looking for a phone holder for my motorbike and I saw this. Looks like a monkey could fit it. I might be able to just do it then... £9.95 isn't the cheapest power socket, but this one gets fairly good ratings.

For anyone that is interested, the cheapest I did find was £4.50, ruddy short cable though.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120576952568

I didn't find a mount that would fit next to my bikes dash though annoyingly....

The first one was the one that got my attention because it gets 4/5 stars off all buyers, but if you do a Google shopping search stacks of different brands and types are available.

From what I gather if you intend to do heavy usage with it (like satnav on month long tours) one with a connector is referred? : https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120578378891

If you want cheap - cheapest socket thing I could find is a double splitter for £1.20 on ebay. Get some wire, a couple of crimp spade connectors and a fuse you're sorted.

When I put power on my KTM I chose to go for an arbitary connetion that was a fair bit smaller - that way I ended up having a total of seven outlets and not take up loads of space. Do have to chop of the normal connectors of course, but you can always reattach to another smaller plug/socket of the same type to match up if you want to use in a car.

Another find semi related :

https://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/20708947/TRIXES-Black-Micro-2-Port-USB-Car-Charger-Adapter-For-iPod-iPhone-iPad-Mobile-SatNav/Product.html?_%24ja=tsid:11518|cat:20708947|prd:20708947

I think thats a normal 2 x USB connector (do Iphones use normal USBs?). not exactly all weather, but I would be hoping to have it mounted either under the seat or under the screen in the boxy bit on my Rieju so either way it shouldn't be exposed to weather. Not sure I would want 2 things charging of my wee bikes battery, but useful having straight USB outputs, nearly everything can be charged via USB nowadays.

I bought this off ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12v-MOTORCYCLE-WATERPROOF-ACCESSORY-SOCKET-1-5m-LOOM-/270784528919?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f0c040217#ht_1651wt_962

But I'm not happy as the wires are not even labelled (positive or negative)
I have contacted the seller for returns.
Anyone has this brand?
Cheers

The fuse should be on the positive. The positive is the wire that goes to the contact in the centre of the socket.

Ahh right, I see.
I have untangled the cables and i can see that only one wire i going into the fuse and out.
So that's got to be the positive.
Many thanks

I've never installed one of these before. I guess I just hook up the negative wire to the negative battery terminal and the positive to the positive battery terminal?

Do I need to do any grounding of some sort?

Cheers

Nope, negative to the negative battery terminal does this - there's no separate grounded outer skin or anything.

It's worth considering having a relay which turns it on only when the engine is running, or only when the ignition is on. However, that's far from essential, especially if you just remember to unplug when you turn the bike off Smile.

Personally I much prefer to use these https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170661477539. You can get them from Maplin too.

They have a very tight fit so anything you plug in will stay in and they also mount nicely if you're doing a proper job. I always cut a hole in my undertray under the seat and mount it into the side so it takes up no space.

I'd also wire it in via a relay triggered by an ignition circuit, save you forgetting that something is plugged in and draining your battery, it also enables you to use that relay for anything else you may want on a switched feed such as heated grips.

I'd have two.

One on a relay, though this might not be worth it. A mobile phone, sat nav etc.. is not going to drain your battery.

One not on a relay, as I tend to charge things with the bike parked up, while i'm asleep in my tent or out partying.

Depends on what you want to charge, but this one has a swich box so it does not constantly drain if you are wanting mobile phone / gps, there is also a dc outlet, i have the accumate dc outlet but its gone all rusty and connection is intermitent now.

Maplin don't do a socket suitable for bikes. That is they don't do one with a cover.

Plus with their bare socket you need to solder the wire to it. That's at least another £5 for a soldering iron plus the solder
