Been looking for a reasonably priced back protector for a while and came across this one in a local bike shop which only sells road going gear - perfect fit and reduced from £70 to £55 so fits the bill,

however on some investigation when getting home to see what the spec is etc its coming up as a motocross back protector on most sites. What exactly is the difference between a motocross and road racing back protector???

Is there any particular reason why this shouldnt be used as protection on road/sportsbike?

i dont think there is a real difference apart from style. i have one for my motocross (never really use it im to beast Wink ) the road ones might be a bit tougher as has to deal to hard tarmac not dirt.

A motocross back protector is designed to protect more against puncture from rocks and other associated crap you fall on when you crash an off road bike. Since the speeds tend to be lower when riding off road.

Road stuff is more about cushioning against impacts at higher speeds. Typically you'll be impacting a flatter surface on the road (kerbs excepted).

Personally I have a Knox Back and chest protector for the road and a big armour vest thing for off roading.

Buy the right one for whichever you're doing IMO.

The same they are not.

Also make sure it fits properly. You don't want it moving upwards at a rapid rate in a crash and snapping your head forwards potentially causing neck injuries!
