Hey, just wanted to say my hello and introduce myself.

Well my name is Adolf, been into bikes for a while and now got a new job lined up so saving up for my CBT because it ran out (I'm 19) get that out the way then book my theory test, then module 1 then module 2.

I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking;

I have my eyes set on a ZXR400 and keep it restricted for 2 years to 33bhp, will pillion be alright on these...the missus wants to go on and how much do these normally cost for a good one?

Also one last question...

Is this helmet considered road legal or not just for the missus not me?

Hello Adolf, very similar thread to what I just started earlier.

That is one wicked helmet but I'd guess the visor is too dark. Im no expert though, just from what ive been reading when I've been sorting out my own gear recently. Maybe it's a different rule for rider and passenger though.

Haha, I kinda guessed the visor but I know most police are okay as long as it's not at night and you aren't causing bother, however will the helmet itself be alright? Airbrushed custom helmet £400 so worth it!

I'd love to speak to someone who's ridden a ZXR400 before to.

1) Are these okay for long ish rides I know not the most comfortable but will it happily sit at 70mph?

2) Is it okay running with 33bhp (if you have had one in)?

3) Are these okay for a pillion, missus wants to go on the back.

4) Average price for a decent one?

1) i get uncomfortable on mine at around 100 miles constant travelling which handley is about the time i need to switch over to reserve or fill up so i normally take a 10 mile break about then, yesterday i clocked about 250 miles out of which i had 2 breaks of about 10 minutes each so i find it comfortable enough for me, im 5ft 10 tall weigh roughly 13st so the bike is a good fit for me

2) mine is unrestricted but sitting at a constant 70 shouldn't be and issue, i spent 40 minutes or so yesterday sat at around 90mph with no issues

3) never had a pillion on mine, with my bike i wouldn't want to as i don't have the rear grab rails but with them i don't see any issues aslong as she's average height for a woman

4) prices vary, mine cost me £1000 and is very tidy but i deliberately bought it before the nice weather started knowing the prices would go up £1500 should find you something very tidy with alot of history. id also set aside an extra £200 for fitting stick coils and nissin front brake calipers both mods completely change the bike for the better

oh and here's a picture of mine desperately in need of a wash

Cheers for the response lad, will ebay be my best bet to go hunting for one just lots and lots I've seen are damaged and have been totally hammered...I know I don't expect an excellent one just average only want it for the two years restriction to be honest then onto a 600, the missus is rather petite and she's about 5'3 so no problems with weight or anything, she wants to hold onto me anyways not a railing.

May I ask what size back tyre is best on these 160?

Is it fine to buy one before I've passed my test of ebay as well? My plan is to pass CBT (got to renew it), pass theory, few lessons, mod 1, few lessons, mod 2 but in between them if I see a decent one can I buy it do you know? I'll be adding small letterbox plate, loud exhaust on it I think they look ace on these little pocket rockets.

I'd guess so there was a thread not long ago second page I believe on general bike chat, that was called mad lids they are also sold on ebay for the uk, so gotta be im guessing.

As long as it meets the requirements like the eu mark then they should be ok.

a 160 tyre is standard, wider tyres can be fitted but ive never done it. you can buy one before passing your test but obviously you won't be able to ride it home and don't be tempted to ride it before passing your test it's not worth getting caught and having the bike crushed. as for where to get one,

ebay
pistonheads

lots of info on these on zxr world aswell

Cheers, nah I wouldn't be tempted it's just while I'll be able to get my CBT and theory out the way rather quickly so to speak, the actual practical inbetween I'll possibly have enough money to buy a bike, I thought it was a 160 to, cheers for clearing it up. What is your opinion on the baby ninja restricted to 33bhp as first bike?

obviously i bought one as my first big bike and i think it's great, i didn't have to go through the whole restriction think but from what ive heard it only really chokes the bike up at the very top end so you should still be able to have a lot of fun on the bikle
