So, finaly got a day to myself. No obligations, no fucking about and got a shitload of bike related stuff to do. Perfect.

When I brought the BB home, it was fairly obvious the downs were in need of attention, it was leaking at the head and blowing from the collector and sounded a bit like a tractor at idle. Kind of annoying when it's hardly the most inconspicuous bike in the world and the sound it makes is otherwise orgasmic. David Silver sourced me one of the 2 last sets of downs Honda Japan had in stock, I got some gaskets from the US and a new carbon can off Ebay for £70 (well chuffed, it's pretty decent quality) flew in from Hong Kong.

Got some tools together and fitted it all today.

First time I've had the fairings off her. She looks good, and it's amazing how small it is under there lol.

Downpipes are obviously pretty shot. First two cylinders were the worst, the number 2 down actually had a hole in it just after the collar.

Plusgas! Made this potential bitch of a job a real breeze.

And off! Can is well and truely on there though, already snapped a bolt trying to free it up.

You can see the corrosion around the collars and if you look closely you can see the hole just after the collar on number 2. When I was removing the pipes, I noticed the allen bolts that had been used to replace the stock studs on number 2 were far too long, so they weren't actually pressuring the collar against the head. Probably what was causing most of the racket.

The weld mess on the collector, numerous blows and leaks from here.

Bloody hell, there's no bike left!

Shiny new gaskets! The old ones are of various sizes and thickness as well as age, so don't think it's ever had a matching set of proper gaskets since it was new lol!

New and old. New pipes have balancers linking 1-2 and 3-4, seems a bit nicer anyway.

Mounted on the bike.

For reading this far you get a treat. A video of me pissing off the neighbours with an open 'zausted 250.

Fitting the new can was a bit of a kerfuffle. The bolt spacings were slightly out so out came Mr. Dremel and that was solved in a haze of metallic dust.

Job done with fairings back on. Looks pretty mint I reckon. Thumbs Up

A video for you of the new pipe and can. Don't know what that steam engine chuff chuff chuff is, bike doesn't make that noise lol, must be my camera having a spaz.

Noice.
