Picked this up today on behalf of mr_z, A 1999 Suzuki Burgerwagon. Having not ridden a scooter for a very long time this was an eye opener!

My god it is huge but boy it pulls well, managed 90mph and overtook an unsuspecting Porsche Boxter.
After a quick blat down the motorway I am sorely tempted to get one myself.

Is it a 400? Looks seductively lovely and so comfy, even on the back. But no, I must be strong, rubber belts and pulleys just don't do it for me. If it had a clutch and left hand twist gear change I would be won over. But then it would need linked brakes, or something on the floor.

I overtook one of them in a 30 zone on my very chavvy R125 a few years back. Boy did I look sheepish when he shot past me the second it opened into NSL Laughing Embarassed

Rode the 400 version, it was like a massive sofa. Fairly quick I guess, got upto 90 no issues. Wasnt the worst bike in the world.... could happily do a fair few miles on it.

I'm going to go outside and beat myself to a pulp in a moment for saying this.

But I think that's quite a nice scooter. Very practical, aswell.

You'll probably just have to step outside and some nice rioting youths will do the beating for you Razz

Scoots aren't ever going to be my thing, not just because of the transmission but mostly the ergonomics, just not me at all but I suppose they are the closest thing to a lazy boy recliner on 2 wheels so I understand some of the appeal.

when i first passed my test, i tried a few bikes including the 98 r1, and a burgman 400 and a yp250.

The yamaha yp250 is much better in town. It handles like a small scooter, but is a little twitchy on motorways. I bought one and I did use it for distance a few times on motorways, and with a givi after market screen, it was pretty good.

scooter blankets are good also. They cover your legs and keep them warm and dry in winter.

This is what I was trying to get to with my 'Scooters, are they awful?' thread.

I know this place doesn't often consider them to be bikes (although, to me, anything with 2 wheels and an engine over 50cc is a motorbike) but what's actually wrong with them?

OK, none of them are going to be as fast or handle as well as an R1/ZX9 etc, but then we don't all ride those kinds of bikes, or want to.

I can get my so called 'real' bike kicks from my Zed (something else that isn't blindingly fast or great handling) but if I just want something to throw my leg over and get to work on, with the minimum of fuss, are they really so bad?
