OK, so basically my years insurance has almost come to an end, but they have sent me a letter saying they're renewing it and I need to inform them 5 days before it starts (which is the 13th of this month)

Now I've been really busy with work and other things that I'm only free after 7-8pm at times and they're closed then.

I remember someone mentioning that the distance selling regulations act applies giving em more time?

They've renewed my insurance at £220, which included a £30 policy fee (WTF?! Charging to give you a policy?!) £25 finance fee( on top of the Finance APR?! I'd happily pay in one lump some) £15 personal accident cover (don't want) and £15 keycare cover (don't want)

So £85 quid in bullshit? Nah thanks.

So I want to cancel. I could just cancel my direct debit and it would stop payments but it would add fuel to the fire surely? I'd like to know exactly what to do as they piss me off.

any help?

Ta much

(I've even been too busy to pick up my BBQ from Chris750's after the BCF BBQ Rolling Eyes)

Would the 14 days cooling off period also be in effect here?

Distance selling might be something to look at.

Although if you just cancel...im sure if the 14 day thing is active, you only pay for what you use... being 0 as cover hasnt started yet.

Either way i'd tell them to go to hell, you've found it for £120 FC and free breakdown cover.. Wink

That's what I'd like to find out. I don't wanna give my monies to these nobheads

That may be so, but I want to know for sure. I don't want to go into a phone call that will more than likely be recorded and shoot myself in the foot!

Tell them you sent a letter informing them of your intent to cancel the renewal. When they say they didn't receive it, inform them of the The Interpretation Act 1978, section 7 and say you would like a full refund.

they'll cancel the policy as it hasn't started yet, the 5 days notice bit will be that within the 5 days before renewal they won't be able to definitely stop the payment coming out of your account, they'll refund it once you've cancelled but as it's an automated process they need the notice to stop the payment being taken.

not sure how you think there being knobs, they've sent you the relevant letter told you the relevant time frame, are they supposed to stay open 24 hours to accommodate people? insurance is something rightly or wrongly you have to have therefore you have to make time to deal with it

Because if i want my insurance renewed then I will contact them. I don't want them to assume I'm going to insure again or go with them again. It's a ploy most companies are taking to take more money from people because its a hassle for them to search other companies, were I'll be happy to change insurance companies every year for the cheapest...

Forget distance selling regs as that will be from the date they sent the letter.

Funny how you have time to find another quote, but can't find 5 mins to ring them and cancel.
The reason they do it is so people do not end up without insurance on the car/bike......

Bet if they did it the other way and you forgot to reinsure you would soon be complaing to them.... Laughing

I did that quote today, when I saw I was out of time. I could've rang them today but decided not to. Date from when they sent the letter is still under 14 days.

And no I wouldn't, like I haven't for the past 5 years. I know when my insurance runs out, as I change companies each year Wink

I love how people assume things Laughing
