Sooooooo....

... Had some issues with the Reg/Rec on the SV, so about 6 months ago got a new battery + reg/rec and all was ok for a few months.

The problem now is that the battery goes flat when riding with the lights on. thinking it has a (relatively) new batt + reg on, i've changed the Stator - but this hasn't made any difference!

without the lights on, the reg/reg charges the battery at about 14v, but with the lights on this drops to about 12v and the batt doesn't charge.

Only thing i can think is that there could be a loose or bad connection somewhere between the stator and the reg/rec, or that there is a short in the lighting system causing a problems?

any other idea's??

Many Thanks
Olly.

Test the stator output first, multimeter on AC volts (200v setting usually) . You should have 3 wires the same colour from the stator to the reg/rec, disconnect the plug from the reg/reg start the motor and let it run at a fast idle. Then put the meter probes on the wires in 3 pairs, i.e.1-2, 1-3 and 2-3. You should be getting somewhere in mid-upper 20 volts on each pair but more importantly the 3 pairs should all be the same or very close. If they check out OK the stator should be fine and you should be checking the wiring from there to the reg/rec as you say, a lot of bikes particularly Honda have similar problems that is cured by hard wiring the various connections between the two.

****forgot to say make sure your battery is fully charged before you start as it's running on battery power only.
