Hi Guys,

Wondering if you can help with a problem my mate's having with his GPX250.

It started yesterday when with the bike in gear and the clutch all the way in, the bike would not move as the wheel would be locked. I replaced the clutch cable and the problem seemed to be sorted. Today I get a call saying the bike won't start (it has dodgy battery so needs to be bumped occasionally - not got round to fixing that yet) and it can't be moved cos the wheel is locked. He gets it recovered and when it's back at mine, I jump it no problem. Wheels spins fine with it in gear and with the clutch in - odd!

We try to re produce the problem and find out that if you have it in gear and release and engage the clutch a few times and the bike will get progressivly harder to move the more you pump the clutch. Trying to start the bike (with the starter) results in the bike being pushed forward as you would expect. The clutch actuation lever on the engine moves the same distance as when the wheel was moving fine so as far as I can see that rules out the lever + cable.

I thought it might a knackered clutch basket with stepped wear on the mating faces where the friction disks sit or a fucked/warped/broken plate or something. We got it apart and everything is fine, all the disks are good and all the pressure plates are straight as a die.

The only thing that we could find which looked a bit odd to me is the clutch basket has free play when you try and move the cog-y bits on the back as you can see in this video. Now as I say i'm not sure if it's normal or not - none of the other bikes i've ever played about with have done this. It's worth mentioning that the crank + oil pump (if that's what it is - looks like it) gears on the back of the clutch basket are NOT moving in the video - it's JUST the basket which sits on top of the gears that is moving.

Sooooo any ideas? Any questions? Any thoughts? Anything? Please? lol!

Thanks in advance guys + Girls Smile
