Jacking it up if you do it too much will screw with the handling but with your neons and stereo I don't think this bothers you. Razz

With a pillion they'll be leaning on you a lot more, dunno how this will affect stability but probably won't improve it I would guess

Make sure you ride smoothly too. If you brake too sharply you are likely to find her come sliding down to join you on your seat!

I find that if I am pillion, control of where you are sitting comes from your bum cheeks (like riding a horse), by keeping your weight on you feet.

I always thought i rode better with her on the back. The back end felt more grounded (No she wants a fat bird) Rolling Eyes Laughing.

Breaking hard were a pain so i told mer to rest her hands on the tank. Then it wasnt a problem.

I didnt fiddle about with the suspension though, mianly cause i didnt know what i were doing...

For takeing pillions i found https://www.survivalskills.clara.net/riding_skills_37.htm Immensely useful...
The worst time is (i have found anyway) is if the passenger squirms around when your slowing to a stop (wich they seem to think is the best time) because of there being less forward motion and the fact your suspension is unbalanced it makes the bike become a bit of a handful and can start you wobbling.

Read though the guide, but the main things are..

- Make sure you passenger wont get on or off before you tell them (when your steady).

- Make sure they know where to hold on.

- Let them know that the shouldn't lean any more or less in a bend than you are, them deciding to help you tighten your line could have you both under the wheels of an oncoming lorry.

- Make sure they have as good protective gear on as is available.

- Do everting smoothly, breaking, accelerating turning, wheelies with your passenger screaming their head off are neither big nor clever Rolling Eyes (but still funny when it happens to your mate by accident and he lets out a girly scream Very Happy )

But apart from the slightly weird feeling of haveing double the weight on the bike its still allot of fun, am hopeing to go accross europe this summer with a couple of mates, some pants and a tent (oh and some money as well)

Charlotte went pillion for loads of miles on the bikes when she was on crutches with a broken leg (she was on crutches for 7 years), and with a crutch held under each arm like ski poles she could not hold on that easily with her hands. Just get the pillion to grip with their knees.

All the best

398cc I only rode my Bandit 600 for a bit when I first bought it, but not much as I didn't have a liscence. Then I took the thing apart to start doing bits to it, and one of the things I added was a Just Bandits Jack up kit.

I have now finished the bike and to be honest it doesn't really affect the handling when I am riding solo or with a pillion. As for the pillion sliding about on the back I couldnt help you there as everyone who has been pillion on it hasn't been wearing leathers, just jeans. So they were bound to slide around a bit.

Only advantages of fitting a Jack up kit is it makes the Bike look better, and maybe if your too tall for you bike you can do it to make your bike look less small.

Mike.

How tall's your pillion? Kev had slight 'issues' after jacking up his Gixer (no fecker could get on the back without judicous use of a high kerb). Laughing

What does a 'jack up kit' actually comprise of?

Mr. Green Stop laughing at the back there...

Laughing Sounds just like something I've done to every single pillion that has been on my bike. Do you know what my research has concluded? It is most definitely big and clever! Very Happy

And my wheelies are lovely and smooth... all the way up to 4th gear down the motorway, eh Susi. Mr. Green

Okay, I've ridden pillion on two different jacked up bikes now and the second time had the be the worst experience ever. This would be why:

https://www.ejunkers.com/burns.jpg

Basically because the back had been jacked up (Zim's Storm) it affected the climbing height that I was used to. Along with this is meant that Zim's cans were in contact with each one of my legs as I got on and off of the bike when normally this wouldn't be a problem. Either way it's not hard to guess what happened. The first burn was done climbing on to the bike and the second getting off as we arrived at our destination 20 minutes later. I'll tell you now that going down the motorway in the middle of Summer with it being 30 something degrees and burns on your legs is not comfortable. Not only that, but I still have the scars.

As for the actual riding position, on both Kev's (No I didn't use a curb to get on it, I just tip toed. I'm tall like that Very Happy) and Zim's bike I found that I had to use more force on my arms in order to keep myself up right when breaking. Also at high speeds my neck suffered immensely as there was no where for me to duck and most of us know that when you're battling with the wind, you're not going to win. Another thing I noticed was sore bum syndrome. The upside to it all is being able to see the road ahead a lot easier.

Thanks susi,

Ouch!!!! those are nasty, i've seen exhaust burns before which is one of the reasons i bought a bike with a low can, so it would not happen,

It is quite a low bike all together, i mean 400's were built for japs which are bit shorter, so i don't think it will be a problem height wise, and as for wheelies? two up? you must be joking,

Mabye i would, if it had a fairing and extended swing arm, and i gave a damn about speed, but it don't and i don't, so i'm going to continue my street fighter approach, thanks for the suggestion though Smile
