Bike is a Triumph Trophy 900. The bike started this morning as usual but I lost all idiot lights, headlights & rear lights shortly afterwards.

Bike continued to run fine & indicators did (and still do ) work.

Bike now wont start after I got to work & dash light and normal lights don't work. Indicators still work and dash lights for the indicators work fine.

All fuses are correct and appear intact.

The bike is happy to turn over on the start button, but will not fire up.

Four things you should know:

1) the bike has had its fairing removed and as such the main loom is perched at the head stock. Looking at this shows one wire which isnt attached to anything at all, as well as one wire whose sheath is badly worn to the copper inside.

2) I recently changed the rear light to a slighty different design. However, this was done on sunday, and the bike has managed 2 trips to work over 50 miles without any problems until today.

3) Battery recently charged and is in good nick.

4) Not sure if it's relevant, but the fan always used to stay on after the bike was turned off after a long run back from town, I haven't heard that for a while thinking about it.

Many thanks.

So I got to the bottom of this today. This is a quick write up if anyone else has the same problem in the future.

I took a multimeter across the battery and fuses, it all checked out ok.

But looking at the main loom, when the headlight was changed the guy before me fitted a very small blade fuse and tucked it into the main loom. This fuse regulated all power to the dash and rev counter.

These older triumph's need to "see" a neutral light before they fire up. Once the blade had blown and power lost to the idiot lights, the bike was never going to start.

Either way, all fixed now.
