Problem: A motorcycle is to be kept outside a terraced house in small road. Infront of the house (infront of the bay window) is a mini-courtyard area aproximately 8' x 5' which is a flat concrete slab. There is ample room to get through the wall opening on a bike where a gate should be. On road parking requires a permit and space for the residents cars is tight. There is a side alley a few doors down that leads round the back of the houses on that road, but due to the 90 degree angle at the end and limited width, bike access to the garden is impossible.
[edit] Forgot to mention, the road is not in a bad location, and it's off the main routes through town so is quite quiet. A biker lives over the road and has never had a problem, although he keeps his bikes in a small metal shed, outside his house. A few more bikes are kept down the road with covers on.
Where would you keep the bike, and what protection security would you recommend? ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Chain it to something solid, job's a goodun. If you can't put a traditional ground anchor in, await plans of my 'moveable' ground anchor coming this weekend.
Maybe slap a loud alarm on it as well, and chuck a cover over the top so it doesn't look so tempting. |

I was kind of thinking that as well Bendy, locked to a ground anchor in that courtyard area. I was a bit worried though about weather protection etc
There are some lock-ups for hire 100 yards down the road, but they are out of sight I would like a garage but if I can't see my bike I would worry quite a bit ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

I kept mine under a cover and it was fine. You can get fancy breathable ones that you can put over a wet bike and they allow it to dry, or just a shitty cheap one which seems to do pretty much the same.
Bottom line - you're going to feel happier with it outside the window than round the corner where you can't see it, so that's the correct answer. |

Just make sure you put a decent cover over it, mostly so peolpe cant see what it is and decide if they want to nick it or not. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

We haven't worked that out yet, but the barrel's about five foot high and will be filled with rocks, gravel, ballast and concrete. So I think the answer is 'quite'. |

definately get the cover, if it's a big sports bike make sure it comes right to the ground cos big tires are a dead giveaway. try to chain it in such a way that it cant fall over too. chavs like to tip bikes over sometimes ____________________ "There are some things nobody needs in this world, and a bright-red, hunch-back, warp-speed 900cc cafe racer is one of them - but I want one anyway, and on some days I actually believe I need one. With some severing of limbs, I think it could be achieved.
Don't really want decomposing womble corpse stinking out my garage though, so I better be getting paid well. |
