Hi,

As per title, just wondering when you start applying your anti corrosion measures to your bike?

Also, do you tend to do it once or keep applying through winter?

Just before they salt the roads, normally around mid October time.

I ACF50 it once then rinse it occasionally with the hose if it looks salty.

Yep about then but I use the Scottoiler FS365 stuff on mine cycle parts wise and keep the electrical connectors, terminals etc silicone greased all year round.

I don't have this luxury, since I have no taps that reach outside, let alone around to the garage. Sad

That is a bit overkill tbh.

If you want to just apply one coating and know it will last without hosing it off consider WAXOYL. A few people mentioned a few days ago that they use it on their bikes over winter, it is great on cars so is probably pretty great on bikes too, it is a waxy oily (waxoyl Surprised ) black coating that you spray all over the engine and metal bits. It looks rough but does a great job at stopping water/salt getting near your metal. It is a kind of self healing layer, if it gets scratched it reforms.

Wash it off with paraffin in the spring and it should be exactly how you left it.

I saw that thread which kind of prompted this one, wasn't sure when to apply it, thinking if I started too early then it'll have washed off by the rain etc.

I'm actually going to try ACF 50, mostly due to the fact I have a can sat here already and also because they used it a fair bit in the RAF and many of their various types of vehicles didn't suffer from rust. That and there's so many types of Waxoyl, I think there's so much choice it's scared me. Laughing

If you already have the ACF50 then use it, it is pretty good stuff. If you can't hose the salt off regularly then what I would do is wash it a bit more often and reapply the ACF50 to the exposed bits (more often i.e. once a month/2 months).

If you don't have a hose.

Why not just fill a watering can and use that?

I'm quite lucky in that I have a hose at work and the bike is parked just by it.

I hate biking in winter. After 7 years of doing it, i'm thinking of buying some heated gloves as I am getting old and strangely feeling the cold more.
