New Bike - VFR800 - UPDATE - RIOTERS BURNT IT

SO, despite not taking my MOD2 until Friday I've been looking at bikes. I've seen quite a few VFR800's which is what I was looking for and finally settled on this one and paid for it today.

It's a '98 S Reg VFR800 with 17,800 on the clocks.

Full Honda Service History including the 16k service. Brand new pair of BT021's with 2 miles on them, Brand new rear pads and disks, Front pads and disks have 2,100 miles on them. New Reg/Rec fitted. New chain and sprockets.

2 owners from New, 1st owner did 14,850 miles until 2002, owner after that was an old chap that kept in in his garage and did less and less miles each year culminating in a massive 17 miles between the MOT in 2010 and the MOT in 2011 which is why he got rid of it.

3 months parts and labour, datatagged, sticker £2695, 12 months MOT, Paid £2350.

Slightly high for age, but excellent mileage and history. My ,ate took it for a spin (he's used to a '10 plate Speed Triple) and said he it felt nice and tight.

Pick it up Friday.

Just been confirmed that the shop I bought it from today has been looted, with my bike in it, that I paid for today, that isn't insured until Friday morning.

Really fucking gutted to be honest, I know I'm not 13 anymore but I felt like a kid at christmas about this bike.

Still trying to get hold of the shop, it's hard and I don't blame them. All my details have gone up in flames, the computer they use for email has gone up in flames, the telephone they use has gone up in flames and I'm sure the poor bloke who has lost his whole livelehood is gutted.

Met a cool guy on a gixxer when we went down on my mates triple to have a look this morning and he'd been going there for years to get his MOT's and said they were always spot on so I'm hoping it won't b too hard to sort out the insurance with them.

Went down this morning and found the attached picture when i arrived (water is going in the front doors of the shop) and there is a picture of the shop with a before and after at this link:

I'll be making sure the examiner on Friday knows what happened and gives me some leeway when I mount the kerb and mow down some moody cunts in hoodies.

My test centre for the MOD2 is the one in Enfield next to the Sony centre they torched, closed today, but apparantly the only damage to the test centre is that the cones on the MOD1 park melted from the heat and MOD2's go ahead from tomorrow.

on another note, being perched on the back of a speed triple giving it the absolute beans is *interesting* to say the least.

If no insurance comes through, another possibility is:

Riot (Damages) Act 1886

1886 CHAPTER 38 49 and 50 Vict

An Act to provide Compensation for Losses by Riots.

Which states:

2 Compensation to persons for damage by riot.

(1)Where a house, shop, or building in [F1a police area] has been injured or destroyed, or the property therein has been injured, stolen, or destroyed, by any persons riotously and tumultuously assembled together, such compensation as hereinafter mentioned shall be paid out of [F2the police fund] of [F1the area] to any person who has sustained loss by such injury, stealing, or destruction; but in fixing the amount of such compensation regard shall be had to the conduct of the said person, whether as respects the precautions taken by him or as respects his being a party or accessory to such riotous or tumultuous assembly, or as regards any provocation offered to the persons assembled or otherwise.

(2)Where any person having sustained such loss as aforesaid has received, by way of insurance or otherwise, any sum to recoup him, in whole or in part, for such loss, the compensation otherwise payable to him under this Act shall, if exceeding such sum, be reduced by the amount thereof, and in any other case shall not be paid to him, and the payer of such sum shall be entitled to compensation under this Act in respect of the sum so paid in like manner as if he had sustained the said loss, and any policy of insurance given by such payer shall continue in force as if he had made no such payment, and where such person was recouped as aforesaid otherwise than by payment of a sum, this enactment shall apply as if the value of such recoupment were a sum paid.

I have only just heard of this Act myself, but it may be an avenue you can go down due the events and circumstances.

Have just been passed this article from a website called Insurance Daily.

It states you have 14 days from incident to claim but they feel the Police will not recognise it as a "riot" ????

As far as I know, Section 1 of the Public Order Act 1986 details a "riot":

Spoke to the guy from the shop today who was surprisingly chipper. He's been speaking with the insurance company all day. He has a big fireproof safe that they reckon will be intact.

The insurance have agreed that he can refund my cash and claim the bike on the insurance himself, just have to wait until they have knocked it down and allow him back inside!
