Been mentioned before... but it does seem that if someone registers, then does something wrong, the karma system sends them loads of bad karma immidatly.

Any way you can change it so its nicer to new people for thier first however many posts?

Or when people register it takes em to a page about stuff like karma and general useful stuff to know. It won't stop 16yr old ped bois, but thats no real loss.

I've tweaked it slightly, let's see how it goes.

Hi

Just to second what Ste says, they do seem to get hammered. Maybe for the first few days the Thumbs Up Thumbs Down options could be disabled for their posts.

All the best

Keith

Use capital I's and capital latters at the beginning of sentences. There is an automatic element to Karma too!

Hi

One suggestion to help both newbies and those of use whose spelling leaves something to be desired is to have a note on the confirmation screen (the screen you get just after you post a message, before it redisplays the thread) saying your spelling was fine / sucked in what you just posted.

All the best

Keith

There is, hit preview and it will tell you if it doesn't like your post and why... people just don't pay attention to it Neutral

(Users with less than 3 green blobs or so are forced to preview their posts, there's no direct "submit" button).

Hi

Just given it a try. I put a few spelling mistakes in, missed the apostrophe from "I've" and added a load of Laughing and it gave me no feed back at all when I used preview.

All the best

Keith

You've got enough karma to get away with that. Try writing a really bad post and see what previews says...

Automatic karma has been toned down even further (for everybody) and newbies also now get a big you-can't-fail-to-see-it message box warning them if they are about to lose karma when posting. High karma people also get this if they are about to make a serious fuckup, just in case, but it isn't there for the little things.

Hi

With my spelling I could do with the warnings! I work with computers. I have a compiler to tell me that I spelt things wrongly (and boy does it work for its money with that job).

All the best
