I have my mod 2 in 2 days so I'm revising the questions in preparation. Where is the brake fluid reservoir on a bike? And how would you check the operation of the engine cut out switch? I will be riding a 1-3 year old YBR 125 if that helps? Thanks Thumbs Up

Q. Identify where the brake fluid reservoir is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic fluid.
A. Identify reservoir, check level against high/low markings

Q. Show me how you would check the operation of the engine cut out switch.
A. Operate switch, without the engine being started.

the brake reservoir is connected to the front brake lever, you will see a black box whit a small glass window in it, thats it.

To check the level you just need to be on flat ground and ensure the fluid inside is between the min and max lines

Your YR doesn't have a cut out switch, but if it did it would also be on the right hand handlebar and to check it's operation for your MOD2 all you do is switch it on and off again without starting the engine.

You may not get asked these questions at all. I take it you've visited a website with all of the questions on.

See attached picture. Also simply say "Stand the bike upright and make sure the level is between the minimum and maximum. For the rear, if you can see it, do the same, if you can't, simply say you have to remove a panel.

I assume you would just turn the switch to the off position, and then on again. Maybe with the engine started, but it says in the answer with it being off... If you're getting lessons, ask your instructor.

Q. Identify where the brake fluid reservoir is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic fluid.
A. Identify reservoir, check level against high/low markings

On the handlebar just beside the throttle you'll see a little black box. Thats your brake fluid res. On their there will be a little sight glass with 2 markings on it. Upper and Lower or Min and Max. As long as the fluid is between them 2 markers when the bikes upright you're fine. Just a case of doing it on the day. Rear brake I think is a drum so you wont have a res for that. If its a disk the res is near the right foot peg.

Q. Show me how you would check the operation of the engine cut out switch.
A. Operate switch, without the engine being started

Switch looks like this, Again on the throttle side of the bike just beside the throttle.

Simply press it to activate the engine stop but remember to make sure its put back to the start setting again.

Instructor friend told me the other day a bloke once failed his test because he couldnt get his bike started. During the show me tell me question he had that very same kill switch question and forgot to set it back to "on" so he could start the bike. After 5 attempts to try and start the bike the examiner just told him he's failed and the test is over.

Its not the examiners job to tell you how to start your bike.

Mod 2 questions

. Identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.

Identify where to check level, i.e. dipstick or sight glass. Explain that level should be between max and min marks. For dipstick remove dipstick and wipe clean, return and remove again to check oil level against max/min marks. For sight glass, ensure glass is clean when checking.

* Show me how you would check that the horn is working on this machine (off road only).

Check is carried out by using control (turn on ignition if necessary).

* Identify where the brake fulid reservoir is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic fluid.

Identefy reservoir, check level agains high/low markings.

* Show me how you would check that the lights and brake lights and reflectors are clean and working.

Operate switch (turn on ignition if necessary), identify reflectors. Check visually for cleanliness and operation.

* Tell me how you would check the condition of the chain on this machine.

Check for chain wear, correct tension and rear wheel alignment. Tension should be adjusted as specified in the machine handbook. Drive chain should be lubricated to ensure that excessive wear does not take place.

* Show me what checks you would make on the steering movement before using the machine. Handlebars should be free to move smoothly from full left lock to full right lock without any control cables being stretched, trapped or pinched and without any snagging between moving and fixed parts.

* Tell me how you would check your tyres to ensure that they are correctly inflated, have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.

Correct tyre pressure settings can be found in the owner's manual. Pressures should be checked using a reliable gauge. Tread depth must be at least 1mm deep, forming a continuous band at least 3/4 of the breadth of the tread and all the way around. There should be no lumps, bluges or tears.

* Show me how you would check the operation of the front brake on this machine.

Wheel the machine forward and apply the front brake.

* Show me how you would check the operation of the brakes on this machine.

Check for escessive travel on the brake lever and the brake pedal and for unusal play or sponginess.

* Show me how you would check the operation of the engine cut out switch.

Operate switch without the engine being started.

What advice you would give a pillion passenger ?

* Tell them to dress appropriately and wear and approved safety helmet. (fastened).

* Tell them not to get on or off until instructed to do so.

* Make sure they get on the motorcycle from the kerb side and sit astride the motorcycle, with their feet on the foot pegs at all times, holding onto grab rail -rider- or a combination of the 2
* Don't fidget or move around.

* Lean with the rider not the machine.

* Don't give any arm signals.

* Tell them to look over my shoulders don't look around my shoulders.

What adjustments would you make to the motorcycle if you were taking a pillion passenger ?

The following Information can be found in the owners Handbook.

* Increase the tyre pressures.

* Stiffen the suspension.

* Lower the headlight aim.

* Lower the rear foot pegs down.

* Adjust the mirrors after the pillion gets on.

* some motorcycle may require the chain adjusting (see owners manual)

How will the extra weight affect the handling of the motorcycle?

* The centre of gravity is raised making the motorcycle top heavy and unstable.

* At slow speeds the motorcycle is more unstable.

* The steering will become lighter.

* Accelerating and braking will take longer.

* At speed the bike will drop into the bend quicker and be harder to lift back up.

What could also affect your balance?

* Gusting wind.

* Alcohol and drugs.

* A badly maintained motorcycle.

* Unevenly packed top box and panniers.

* Uneven road surfaces. eg wet - painted- man hole covers
