Hi all,

I'm looking for a solution to a problem I have. I need the metal piece as seen in this picture which is a threaded metal insert for the upper fairing on a '99 CBR900. Unfortunately, it's not sold separately by Honda as comes as part of the fairing. No idea why mine is missing it.

It's fairly important since it covers the fuses and electrics.

Any great ideas on where I could get something to, or how to, replace it?

Thanks in advance

That's a last resort purely because that would mean I have to drill the covers that this bolt secures and then it won't fit on my other set of fairings, so require new side covers.

Is it not just a nutsert? Can't you just buy a nutsert that is the right size?

By Jove, I think you've got it! Although I think that's one of the most annoying websites I've seen in a long time!

In regards to size, I know it's a 6mm inner, but I'm not sure what that is in 'Unified' or 'ISO Metric' and there doesn't seem to be anything about it on their website?

I learnt two things today. Firstly, what a nutsert is. Secondly, another name for a nutsert is 'rivnuts'.

Can I check if I find some of the right size, they're fine to just be glued in, since they should be under very little strain?

A rivnut is slightly different. It changes shape when you put it in, like a rivet. A nutsert doesn't. However, if you could give them the dimensions of the nutsert over the phone, I'm sure they'd be able to find something suitable. Even if its 0.5mm too small you should be able to epoxy it in place no problem.
